Jesus took only 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish and fed about 5000 men plus their wives and children. たったパン五つと魚二匹でイエス様は女と子供を別にして、男が五千人ほどに食べさせました。 Yes, it was a miracle, but it was more than just a big picnic. 奇跡でしたが、ただの大きいピクニックよりも大事な事がありました。Jesus is teaching us something. イエス様は私達に何かを教えます。 It is something about growth.それは成長についてです。
Last month we read the parable of the sower. 先月、種まきの例え話を読みました。 The wheat that landed in good soil brought forth a great crop, a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown (13:9). 良い土に落ちた麦は、「実を結んで、あるものは百倊、あるものは六十倊、あるものは三十倊にもなった《のです。 One small seed of grain produces many more. 麦の一粒は多くの麦になります。 Then there was the parable of the mustard seed. そして、からし種の例え話もありました。 A tiny seed produces a bush as big as a tree, big enough that birds of the air can come and perch in its branches (13:32). とっても小さい種ですが、「成長するとどの野菜よりも大きくなり、空の鳥が来て枝に巣を作るほどの木になる《のです。 Then there was the parable of the yeast. また、パン種の例え話もありました。 A woman baked a lot of bread by using only a small amount of yeast that made the bread rise. 女がほんの少しのパン種を取って麦の粉に混ぜると、やがて全体が膨れると、それでパンを沢山作りました。 Jesus was teaching about the Kingdom of Heaven. イエス様は天の国について教えました。 It starts small with great difficulties, but becomes large. 最初は、小さくて、多くの苦難がありますが、大きくなります。We usually interpret these parables by saying that they are about evangelism. この例え話の普通の解釈とは、福音伝道の事です。 Just a few words of Gospel can take root and start to grow in a person’s heart. 福音の言葉がちょっとだけでしても、私達の心の中に根を下ろして成長する事が出来ます。 This gives us hope and confidence in our evangelism efforts. それで、私達の伝道の活動に希望と確信が与えられています。 Besides, we know that the Holy Spirit is working with us. その上に分かるのは、聖霊は私達と共に働いているからです。It is the Holy Spirit that gives growth and faith.成長と信仰を与えるのは、聖霊です。
Today’s miracle story of the feeding of the 5000 is also about growth. Perhaps this miracle is proof for the teaching of the parables.今日の奇跡の話し、５千人を食べさせる奇跡は、ものが大きくなる事です。又は、例え話の教えの証拠でしょう。 It is the growth in the Kingdom of Heaven of love and compassion. 神の国の中の愛と憐れみの成長です。 It is the love and compassion of Jesus Christ. イエスキリストの愛と憐れみです。 We read, “When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.” このように読みます、「イエスは舟から上がり、大勢の群衆を見て深く憐れみ、その中の病人をいやされた《と。 That love was first shown to the sick and to their families who had brought them to Jesus. その愛は、まず、病気の人と彼らを連れて来た家族に対する見せた愛です。 And then in the breaking of the bread, he showed that love and compassion to everyone who had come there that day. そして、パンを裂く事によって、その日に来られたすべての人々に見せられたのです。 The disciples did have compassion. 弟子達には哀れみがありました。 They came to Jesus and suggested that he send the people home early so that they could get something to eat. それで、イエス様に言いました、「ここは人里離れた所で、もう時間もたちました。群衆を解散させてください。そうすれば、自分で村へ食べ物を買いに行くでしょう《と。 But Jesus had a better plan that would teach the people, and the disciples, about the true love and compassion of the Kingdom of God. しかし、イエス様には、それより素晴らしいプランがありました。そのプランは弟子達にも群集にも神の国の愛と憐れみを教えます。 Jesus looked up to heaven and said a prayer of thanks. イエス様は天を仰いで、賛美の祈りをしました。 He wanted the people to see him pray so that they would know this would be an act of God. 群集の前で祈りますと、これからの業が神様の業であると分かります。 Then he broke the bread and continued to multiply the bread until everyone was satisfied. パンを取って、裂き続けますと、すべての人が食べて満腹するまで、パンを増やしました。 It is hard to measure love, but on that day the measure was over 5000 people. 愛を計る事が難しいですが、その日の測りは、5千人以上でした。
Just a side note, when Jesus does a miracle, he does it well. ところで、イエス様は奇跡をなさる時、上手にします。 The disciples collected twelve baskets of broken pieces that were left over (vs. 20). 弟子達が残ったパンの屑を１２の籠いっぱいほど集めました。 There were more leftovers than the original loves of bread! もともとのパンの量よりも、残り物の方が多いでした！ The love and compassion and power of God are infinite. 神様の愛と憐れみと力が永遠です。 This is the love that feeds the whole world every day. この愛こそは毎日全世界を食べさせます。 “Give us this day our daily bread” is more than a request for food; it is a statement of faith that God is the source of the all food and every blessing that the people of the world need to live. 「我らの日ごとのかてを今日も与えたまえ《とは、食べ物の願いだけではありません。信仰の証です。全世界の人々が生きる為に、必要な食べ物とすべての恵みが神様から来ると言う信仰の証です。And when we pray before we eat, we thank God for his gracious love and compassion.それで、食前の祈りは、恵み深い愛と憐れみの為に、神様に感謝します。
Jesus wants to teach us something. イエス様は私達に何かを教えたいと思います。 He wants to teach us about compassion. 憐れみについて教えたいと思います。 Usually we are alone with our pain. 普通私達は、自分の痛みだけを考えます。 Other people are the same. 他の人もそうです。 We have our worries and problems, and often we think only about ourselves. 自分の心配と問題がありますので、自分の事だけ大事に思います。 We might even wonder if God knows about us. 神様が自分の事を知るかどうか思います。 And yet, we are like the people in the Gospel story. それなのに、私達は福音書のストーリの人々と同じです。 The people followed Jesus to the place he was going. イエス様の行く所に歩いて行きました。 We have come here this morning because we know that Jesus is here. 今朝、私達がここに来たのは、イエス様がここにいるからです。 Of course the Lord Jesus is everywhere, but here in church we can clearly hear his words of love and compassion. 勿論、主イエスはすべての所にいますが、この教会で、イエス様の愛と憐れみの言葉をはっきり聞く事が出来るからです。 And this gives love and compassion for others. それを聞いて、私達に他の人の為の愛と憐れみが与えられています。 Perhaps this is taught in the Lord’s Prayer. もしかしたら、これが主の祈りに教えられているでしょう。 After the words “Give us this day our daily bread” there are the words that pray for other people, “and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” 「我らの日ごとのかてを今日も与えたまえ《と言う言葉の後に、他の人の為に祈ります、「われらに罪を犯すものを、われらがゆるすごとく、われらの罪をもゆるしたまえ《と。 When the walls of sin and grievance are broken down, true love and compassion can flow. 罪と敵意の壁が砕クダけておろしましたら、本当の愛と憐れみが流れる事が出来ます。 That happens from God to us, and then from God through us to others.神様から私達にも、神様から私達を通して、他の人にも流れます。
Jesus took a few loaves of bread and fed the multitude. 数少ないパンを取って、イエス様は大勢の人々を食べさせました。 In baptism, the Holy Spirit can take a few drops of water and give us complete forgiveness and eternal salvation. 洗礼式の時、聖霊は数滴の水を取って、完全な赦しと救いを私達に与えます。 In the Lord’s Supper, a small piece of bread and a sip of wine give us the infinite blessings of his body that was hung on the cross and the forgiveness and new life of his blood that was shed on the cross. 聖餐式の時、小さなパンと一口のワインが私達に与えるのは、十字架に掛けたイエス様の体の限りがない祝福と十字架上に流された血による赦しと新しい命です。 That is because in the One Man Jesus Christ, the love of God for all the people in the whole world was shown in his death and resurrection. 何故ならば、その一人の人であるイエス･キリストにおいて、彼の死と復活によって、全世界のすべての人々の為の神様の愛が表されていたからです。 Jesus shed just a few pints of blood, but it was enough to forgive the sin of the world. イエス様は一人分の血を流しましたが、世の罪を赦す為に、十分でした。 That is the measurement of God’s love and compassion.それこそは、神様の愛と憐れみの計りです。
