Matthew 24:36–44
“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. |
福音書 マタイ 24:36～44 36「その日、その時は、だれも知らない。天使たちも子も知らない。ただ、父だけがご存じである。 37人の子が来るのは、ノアの時と同じだからである。 38洪水になる前は、ノアが箱舟に入るその日まで、人々は食べたり飲んだり、めとったり嫁いだりしていた。 39そして、洪水が襲って来て一人残らずさらうまで、何も気がつかなかった。人の子が来る場合も、このようである。 40そのとき、畑に二人の男がいれば、一人は連れて行かれ、もう一人は残される。 41二人の女が臼をひいていれば、一人は連れて行かれ、もう一人は残される。 42だから、目を覚ましていなさい。いつの日、自分の主が帰って来られるのか、あなたがたには分からないからである。 43このことをわきまえていなさい。家の主人は、泥棒が夜のいつごろやって来るかを知っていたら、目を覚ましていて、みすみす自分の家に押し入らせはしないだろう。 44だから、あなたがたも用意していなさい。人の子は思いがけない時に来るからである。《 |
One of the important teachings of the Christian Church is stated in the words of the Apostles Creed. キリスト教会の大切な教えの一つは、使徒信条にあります。
I believe in Jesus Christ. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
われはの主イエス・キリストを信ず。天に上り、全能の父なる神の右に座したまえり。かしこより来たりたまいて、生ける人と死にたる人を、裁きたまわん。 又 からだのよみがえり、限りなきいのちを信ず。アーメン。
We believe that Christ will return, but the Bible does not tell us when that will be. キリストが戻って来られると私達は信じますが、いつそれがなるか、聖書は教えません。 Jesus said that even he himself did not know when he would return. イエス様ご自身は、ご自分も知らないと言われました。 But he promised that he will come. しかし、戻ると約束しました。 We do not know when that will be, so Jesus said, “Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.” “Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” 私達はそれがいつなるか分からないので、イエス様は言われました、「42だから、目を覚ましていなさい。いつの日、自分の主が帰って来られるのか、あなたがたには分からないからである。《「44だから、あなたがたも用意していなさい。人の子は思いがけない時に来るからである。《 He might come today, next week, perhaps in our lifetime, maybe not for another thousand years. 今日来られるかも知れません、又、来週や私達の生きている間や後千年かも知れません。 We might not meet Jesus until he comes on the Day of Resurrection of the Dead.私達がイエス様と出会うのは、世の終わりの復活の日かも知れません。
It is natural that people get sleepy or distracted when waiting for something or someone, or when waiting in line. 誰かが何かの為に待つ時、行列に並んで待つ時、眠くなったり、別の事を考えたりするのは自然です。 If we get bored we might get into mischief or give up waiting. 退屈でしたら、いたずらしたり、あきらめたりします。 Or, we could fear the person or event that is coming: 又、来る人やその事を恐れる事もあります： the policeman coming to our car, 自分の車に歩いて来るお巡りさん、 the teacher with a big test, 大きいテストも持って来る先生、 mother with a paddle to spank us, お尻をたたきに来るお母さん、 the doctor with the lab results. 健康診断の発表を持って来るお医者さん。 Christians sometimes fear the Second Coming of Jesus when we remember our sin and unworthiness. キリスト信者達は、イエス様の再臨を恐れる時もあります。それは、自分の罪と価値がない事を考える時です。 It is hard to believe that His dying on the cross and his resurrection forgives our sin and gives us eternal life. 信じにくいのは、イエス様の十字架上の死と復活が私達の罪を赦して、私達に永遠の命を与える事です。 It is hard to believe, yet that belief gives great relief, comfort, and hope. 信じにくいですが、その信仰は大きいな安心、慰めと希望を与えます。 When we are waiting for Jesus, we must not forget that he promised to come. イエス様を待つ時、彼の再臨の約束を忘れてはいけません。 We must stand firm in our faith and not wander off into unbelief and sin. 強い信仰に立って、上信仰や罪に迷ってはいけません。
Jesus said, “Therefore you also must be ready.” イエス様は言われました、「44だから、あなたがたも用意していなさい。《 How do we get ready? どのように準備するでしょうか。 It is by believing that Jesus is our personal Savior. それは、イエス様を自分自身の救い主であると信じる事によってです。 It is by confessing our faith, accepting baptism, confessing our sin, and living in the love of Jesus.信仰を告白し、洗礼を受けて、罪をざんげして、イエス様の愛の内に生活を送る事によってです。
What should we be doing while we wait? 待ちながら何をするべきでしょうか。 St. Paul described the Christian life in the words of today’s Epistle Reading. 聖パウロは、今日の使徒書で、キリスト者の生き方を教えました。
Romans 13:11–14. “Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.”
ローマ 13:11～14「11更に、あなたがたは今がどんな時であるかを知っています。あなたがたが眠りから覚めるべき時が既に来ています。今や、わたしたちが信仰に入ったころよりも、救いは近づいているからです。 12夜は更け、日は近づいた。だから、闇の行いを脱ぎ捨てて光の武具を身に着けましょう。 13日中を歩むように、品位をもって歩もうではありませんか。酒宴と酩酊、淫乱と好色、争いとねたみを捨て、 14主イエス・キリストを身にまといなさい。欲望を満足させようとして、肉に心を用いてはなりません。《
What should we be doing while we wait? 待ちながら何をするべきでしょうか。 We should do the work that the Lord has given us to do. 主なる神様から与えられた仕事をする事です。 In today’s Gospel Reading Jesus said, “Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left.” 今日の福音書でイエス様は言われました、「40そのとき、畑に二人の男がいれば、一人は連れて行かれ、もう一人は残される。 41二人の女が臼をひいていれば、一人は連れて行かれ、もう一人は残される。《 Perhaps the men were planting seeds to harvest in the autumn. ２人は畑に秋の収穫の為に種をまいたでしょうか。 Perhaps the women were grinding flour to make bread for the family. ２人は家族のパンを作る為に小麦粉を引いたでしょうか。 They were going about their normal daily, God-given, God-pleasing lives. その人達は、普通の毎日の、神から与えられた神に喜ばせる生活を送りました。 They were not worried about the Second Coming, because they had faith in what Christ did at His first coming. And so they were not worried and lived their lives in peace. イエス様の再臨を心配しませんでした、何故ならば、キリストが最初に来られた時になさった事を信じたからです。 So, carpenters should build good houses, ですから、大工さんは家を作り、 teachers should teach well, 先生はよく教え、 gardeners should plant trees. 園丁は木を椊えます。 Christians should gather on Sundays. キリスト信者達は日曜日ごとに教会に集まります。 We should celebrate Advent and Christmas. アドベントとクリスマスをお祝いします。 Our lives should be filled with prayer, praise and thanks. 人生は、祈りと讃美と感謝に満たされています。 We should rejoice because the Holy Spirit has come and given us faith.聖霊が私達に来られて私達に信仰を与えたので、喜びます。
