When Jesus was born, his Mother Mary laid him in a manger. What is a manger, and why is that important? イエス様がお生まれになった時、母マリアは彼を飼い葉おけの中に寝かせました。飼い葉おけとは何でしょうか、又、どうして大切でしょうか。
A manger is the place where the feed for animals is put. 飼い葉おけの別の言い方とは「まぶね《ですが、動物の餌を入れる所です。 Sheep and cows and horses and goats can come there and eat hay or oats or corn. 羊や牛や馬や山羊はここに来ますと、草や大麦やともろこしを食べます。We can find the manger in a barn or stable, or perhaps in a corral. 場所は馬小屋や動物の小屋や牧場にあります。 We are told that Mary laid her child in a manger because there was no place in the inn. 宿屋には彼らの泊まる場所がなかったので、マリアは赤ちゃんを飼い葉桶に寝かせました。 In other words, the hotel rooms were all full, but they were allowed to sleep in the shed. 言い換えますと、ホテルは満室であったのですが、馬小屋に泊まる許しを受けました。 Then Jesus was born and laid in the hay. そこでイエス様が生まれて，草の上に寝かせました。 Perhaps the straw was clean and fresh and it surely smelled sweeter than the rest of the barn: the mud and filth and smelly animals. その草が新鮮できれいでしょう、とにかく、馬小屋の匂いよりいいでしょう、泥とホコリと臭い動物がいるからです。
A person might think that a stable would not be the appropriate place for the Son of God to be born, but actually, it was the perfect place! Let’s see why that is important. 神の子が馬小屋で生まれるのがふさわしくないと思うでしょうが、実は、ちょうどよい場所です。何故、これが大切か見ましょう。
The message, the meaning of Christmas is that in the Baby Jesus Christ, the Son of God Almighty took human form and lived on this earth. クリスマスのメッセージ、そのクリスマスの意味とは、この赤ちゃんイエス・キリストによって、全能の神の子は、人間の形を取ってこの地上に住む事になる事です。 He came as a simple person, not rich or fancy or luxurious. Why? 普通の人として来ました、金持ちや偉い身分や裕福の人の姿ではありませんでした。何故でしょうか。Because that is not the way most people in the world are. この世のほとんどの人はそのようではないからでしょう。 He came to be one of us. 私達の一人になりました。
In his later ministry, he was with all sorts of people: 大人になった時の宣教の働きでいろいろの人と出会いました： rich, poor; 金持ちと貧乏人、healthy, diseased: 健康と病、 happy, sad; 幸福と悲しみ、conceited, humble; 誇りとけんそん、greedy, generous; 欲張りと気前よさ、 honest, and even thieves on the cross. 正直や十字架のそばの泥棒。 He experienced what we experience, the joys of life and the sorrows, the pains and even death. 私達が経験する事を経験しました：人生の喜びもその悲しみも、痛みも、死ぬ事もです。 And he experienced resurrection, which we will experience in the future some day. 復活も経験しました、私達は将来いつかそれを経験します。 He understood why people sin, although he never sinned. イエス様は罪を犯した事がありませんが、どうして人間が罪を犯すか理解する事が出来ました。He felt temptation, although he never gave in to it. 誘惑や試みを受けましたが、それに陥いりませんでした。 He had the full human experience because he started at the manger. 飼い葉おけのスタートがあったので、人間のすべての経験を受けいれました。 He took all that was human upon himself; he even took our sin upon himself. すべてをご自分の上に取りました、私達の罪までもご自分の上に取りました。 Therefore when he died on the cross, he was the sacrifice to forgive our sin. ですから、十字架上で死ぬ時、私達の罪を赦す犠牲になりました。His resurrection is the beginning of our new birth. 彼の復活は私達の新しい生まれの初めでした。
Jesus was laid in the manger. イエス様は飼い葉おけに寝かされました。 We need to make our hearts into a manger for Jesus to lie in our hearts. 私達は自分の心をイエス様を寝かせる飼い葉おけにしましょう。 We need to make our homes and our lives into mangers for Jesus to live in our lives. 私達の家も自分の人生も、イエス様を寝かせる飼い葉おけにしましょう。 The manger is the symbol that God is with us. 飼い葉おけとは、神様が私達と共にいるということです。 In our humbleness and ordinary life, he is with us. 私達の普通のけんそんな人生の中で私達と共にいます。 The cross is also the symbol that God is with us. 十字架も、神様が私達共にいるシンボルです。 He is with us in our pain and loneliness and sin and failure. 私達の痛みや孤独や罪や失敗の中に私達と共にいます。 And the empty tomb also is the symbol that God is with us. また、空っぽのお墓も、神様が私達共にいるシンボルです。 He gives forgiveness and new life. 赦しと新しい命を与えます。 These are symbols of God’s love that give us hope and courage and peace. これすべては神様の愛のしるしで、私達に希望と勇気と平和を与えます。 Jesus was born and laid in a manger. イエス様は生まれて飼い葉おけに寝かされました。 He is also in our hearts and in our lives. 私達の心や人生の中にもいます。
