In the Orient, 2017 is the Year of the Bird. ２０１７年は鳥年です。 So I thought it would be fun to see what birds are in the Bible and see how they relate to our salvation in Jesus Christ. それで、聖書の中にある鳥を見て、私達のイエス･キリストによる救いとの関係を見たいと思いました。 I just want to mention two of the many birds in the Bible. 聖書の中の二つの鳥だけについて話したいと思います。 One is the dove of the Holy Spirit that came down on Jesus at his baptism. 一つは、洗礼を受けた時、イエス様の上に降りて来た鳩です。 But first, I want to look at the rooster that crowed on the morning of Good Friday.しかし、最初に見たいのは、聖金曜日の朝に泣いた鶏です。
When that rooster crowed, Peter broke down and wept because he realized that he had denied Jesus, just like it was predicted. その鶏が鳴いた時、ペトロは涙を流しました。何故ならば、イエス様が予言した通りに、ペテロはイエス様を否定したと分かったからです。
マタイ26:73-75、≪26:73 しばらくして、そこにいた人々が近寄って来てペトロに言った。「確かに、お前もあの連中の仲間だ。言葉遣いでそれが分かる。」74 そのとき、ペトロは呪いの言葉さえ口にしながら、「そんな人は知らない」と誓い始めた。するとすぐ、鶏が鳴いた。75 ペトロは、「鶏が鳴く前に、あなたは三度わたしを知らないと言うだろう」と言われたイエスの言葉を思い出した。そして外に出て、激しく泣いた。≫
Matthew 26:73-75, ≪After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely you are one of them, for your accent gives you away.” 74 Then he began to call down curses on himself and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man!” Immediately a rooster crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.≫
This story in the Bible is not just about Peter, it is about us. この聖書の話しは、ペトロだけではなくて、私達のための話です。 That rooster reminds us that we have denied Jesus in our lives, by our sin and fear and lack of trust. その鶏が思い起こすのは、私達も、イエス様を否定した事がある事です。それは、私達の生き方、私達の罪や恐れや不信頼からです。 We have not only denied Jesus when we have not given witness to our faith, but we have also witnessed that we put our trust and confidence in things that are not Christian. 自分の信仰を証ししなかった事があれば、クリスチャン的ではないものに信頼と確信を置いた事もあります。 The rooster is the accusation of the Law of God. その鶏は、神様の律法の宣告です。 It is not just because we have broken one or two of the Ten Commandments – then that poor rooster would be crowing all day long. その理由とは、十戒の一つや二つの戒めを破った事だけではありません～～～そうでしたら、その可哀想な鶏が一日中鳴くでしょう。 We are like a bird that cannot fly. 私達は飛ぶ事が出来ない鳥のようです。 We find that we are unable to fly and escape the things of this world. この世のものから飛んで逃げる事が出来ません。 The rooster crows. 鶏が鳴きます。 It reminds us of our sin. 私達の罪を思い起こさせます。 It reminds us of our helplessness. 私達に無力さを思い起こさせます。 And it creates fear in our hearts. 私達の心の中で恐れを起こさせます。 It is the fear that the new year of 2017 is just going to be one more year of denials and regrets and betrayals. その恐れとは、２０１７年も、以前と同じように、否定と惜しみと裏切りの一年になる事です。 That is what the Word of God does. それは、神の御言葉がする事です。 It speaks into our hearts and accuses us and we know our guilt and we become our own jury that convicts us. 私達の心に話して、私達に宣告して、そして、私達は自分の誤りを認めるので、自分が自分を宣告する裁判官になります。 The rooster cries, “Crucify him, crucify him.” “Put that sinner on the cross.” 鶏が[十字架につけよ！十字架につけよ！]と鳴きます。「その罪人を十字架につけよ」と鳴きます。 And the sign above the cross is our name. そして、十字架上に書かれた名前は、私達の名前です。 And the Old Vulture of the Devil shrieks in triumph at our demise.そして、悪魔である昔のハゲワシが私達の滅びの為に勝利を持って声高く鳴きます。
But if we die with Christ we also rise with Christ. Or rather, if Christ dies with us, we also rise with Christ.しかし、キリストと共に死にましたら、キリストと共に甦ります。又、キリストが私達と共に死にましたら、私達はキリストと共に甦ります。 Do not forget that in 2017. ２０１７年にそれを忘れないようにしましょう。 The Holy Spirit that led us to faith keeps us in faith. 聖霊はこの信仰に導いて下さって、私達の信仰を守って下さいます。 As the Holy Spirit descended like a dove on Jesus at his baptism, so he descends upon us daily to forgive our sin, to give us new life, and to give us wings to fly. 聖霊は洗礼を受けた時にイエス様の上に鳩の形のように降りて来られたと同じように、毎日私達の上に下って、私達の罪を赦して、新しい命を与えて、飛ぶ羽を与えて下さいます。 We fly away from the old sins and fears of past years. それで、古い罪や以前の年の恐れから飛んで逃げます。 With the Holy Spirit we can fly through the new problems of the new year. 聖霊が私達と共にいますので、この新しい年の新しい問題を飛んで通す事が出来ます。 Like Noah’s dove that returned to the Ark with a fresh olive branch symbolizing peace, the Holy Spirit gives us hope that creates faith in our hearts and peace in our lives. ノアの鳩が、平和をあらわす新鮮なオリブの若枝を箱舟まで唇にくわえて持って来たように、聖霊は私達に希望を与えますので、心の中で信仰を起こし、人生の中の平和を与えます。 This is the Word and Promise of Jesus Christ.これはイエス･キリストの御言葉と約束です。
The Year 2017 marks the 500th Anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation. ２０１７年は、ルーテル宗教改革の５００周年です。 I want to mention two birds, a goose and a swan. それで、二つの鳥について話したいと思います、ガンと白鳥です。 100 years before Martin Luther there was a Reformer in Prague named John Hus. マルチン･ルターの１００年前に、プラハの所には改革者ヨハン・フスがいました。 He promoted God’s Word in the people’s language and protested the abuses of the Church. 彼は、その民の国語で神の言葉を使いたいし、教会の悪い行いを反対しました。 But Rome wanted him to stop. しかし、ローマ法王は彼を止めさせようと思いました。 They condemned Hus and had him burned at the stake. フスを死刑に宣告して、柱に付けて彼を燃やして殺しました。 The name “Hus” means “Goose” in English. 「フス」と言う名前の意味とは、日本語で鳥の「ガン」です。 Shortly before they executed him, he predicted this phrase, “You may roast this ‘goose,’ but after a hundred years God will send a swan!” 死刑にされるちょっと前に、彼はこの表現を予言しました、「この『ガン』を焼いても、100年後で神様は白鳥を送る」と。 We feel that Luther was that swan. ルターはその白鳥になったと思われています。 Luther clearly proclaimed God’s Word of Law and Gospel, of curse and promise. ルターは、はっきり神様の律法と福音の言葉、呪いと約束を述べました。 He was like the rooster to wake up God’s people to the full truth of error and sin. そして、鶏が鳴くように、神様の民を起こして、その誤りと罪の完全な真理の知識について鳴きました。 And to those who like Peter knew their sin and repented of it, Luther proclaimed the sweet Gospel that the Holy Spirit brings full forgiveness. そして、ペトロのように、自分の罪を分かって悔い改める人に、ルターは、甘い福音を述べました、即ち、聖霊が完全な赦しをもって来る事です。 We cannot save ourselves, but our faith receives the salvation of Christ. 私達は自分で自分を救う事が出来ませんが、私達の信仰はキリストの救いを受け入れます。 And this is the Dove of our baptism alsoそれは、私達の洗礼の鳩です。. It is the peace and hope that will guide us, cheer us and keep us in the new year.この平和と希望は、この新しい年に、導きと喜びと守りを下さいます。
