全聖徒主日2016年11月6日
This afternoon is the dedication of the Okinawa Lutheran Church Cemetery. 今日の午後は、沖縄ルーテル教会の墓地献堂式です。 It was in the planning for about 23 years, so we are happy and thank God that it is finally completed. ２３年前からの計画が出来上がりましたので、嬉しくて神様に感謝します。 In the dedication ceremony there is time for a sermon, but since it will be outside, it is hard to hear, and so I thought I would give the sermon now during our morning worship. 式の中で、説教の時間を取りましたが、外でしますので、よく聞く事が出来ないので、今の午前中の礼拝でその説教をしようと思います。 Today is All Saints’ Sunday, so the theme is very appropriate.そして、丁度全聖徒主日にふさわしいテーマです。
The Words of Scripture on the tomb are the words of Jesus. Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.”
墓地に書かれている聖書の言葉はイエス様の言葉です。イエス様はいわれました、「わたしは道であり、真理であり、命である。」
★ We could make three sermons out of this. このテーマで、三つぐらいの説教をする事が出来るでしょう。
★ First, “Jesus is the Way.” 先ず、「道であるイエス様。」
★ Then next week, “Jesus is the Truth.” そして来週は「真理であるキリスト。」
★ And then on the following Sunday, “Jesus is the Life.” そして次の週は「命であるキリスト」です。
★ Or we could make one summary sermon entitled, “Jesus is the True Way to Life.” まとめると、ひとつの説教で、「命への誠の道であるイエス様」。
★ Or, “Jesus is the Way to True Life.” 又、「誠の命への道であるキリスト」
★ “Jesus is the True way of Living.” や「誠の生き方であるイエス様」。
★ Or how about, “Living the True Way”? 又、「真理の生き方」。
★ Or, “The Honest Way of Life.” 「正直な人生の道」です。
★ Or: “Jesus Shows us the True Way to True Life.” 又は、「誠の命への誠の道を表すイエス様」。
Jesus spoke these words to the disciples at the Last Supper. イエス様は最後の晩餐の時に弟子達に話しました。 He was preparing the disciples for what would be happening in the next few weeks. その時から起こる事の為に弟子達の心を準備しようと思いました。 Jesus would be captured, tried, and crucified； then he would rise from the grave, ascend into heaven, and send the Holy Spirit. イエス様が逮捕され、裁かれ、十字架につけられます。そして、復活して、天に昇って、聖霊を送ります。 At that time of the Last Supper, the disciples really did not fully understand what Jesus was talking about. 最後の晩餐の時、弟子達にはよく分かりませんでした。 Today we can understand because we know what happened. 今日、私達がよく理解出来るのは、私達はその出来事がどのようになったかを知っているからです。 But just as the disciples struggled to understand what Jesus was talking about, sometimes we also struggle to fully understand what it means for us. しかし、イエス様の話を理解する為に、一生懸命にした弟子達と同じように、私達も、私達自身の為に、イエス様の話を理解する為に一生懸命に努力します。 And so we read the account of the Last Supper and our faith becomes stronger.それで私達は、その最後の晩餐の言葉を読んで、私達の信仰は強くなります。
Jesus told the disciples that he was going to go and prepare a place for the disciples in his Father’s house. “In my Father's house are many rooms.” [I like the King James Version, “In my Father's house are many mansions.” The rooms seem nicer in the KJV.] Then Jesus said, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” イエス様は弟子達に話しました、「14:2 私の父の家には住む所がたくさんある。もしなければ、あなたがたのために場所を用意しに行くと言ったであろうか。14:3 行ってあなたがたのために場所を用意したら、戻って来て、あなたがたを私のもとに迎える。」 Well, the disciple Thomas did not understand where Jesus was going, and he did not know how to get to the heavenly mansion. 弟子のトマスはイエス様がどこに行くか分かりませんでした、どのようにその天国の住まいに行くかも分かりませんでした。
I think the best way to understand this is that Jesus was talking about his death and resurrection and also about his ascension and second coming. どのようにイエス様の話を理解しましょうか。それは、イエス様は御自分の死と復活、と同時に、御自分の昇天と再臨について話していると思います。 Without dying and resurrecting, there would be no salvation and so no heavenly mansions for anyone. 何故ならば、死んで甦られなければ、救いも天の住まいもありません。 So, the first step in preparing a place for the disciples is that Jesus must die on the cross. ですから、弟子達の為に場所を用意する第一歩とは、十字架上で死ぬ事です。 That is the first step on the road to heaven. それは、天国への道の第一歩です。 Only Jesus could die on the cross to forgive the sin of the world. 世の罪を赦す事が出来るのは、イエス様だけです。 And so only Jesus is the true way to life. ですから、イエス様だけが命への誠の道です。He is the Way. 彼は道です。 Therefore the word and promise of the Gospel is true, the truth. ですから、福音の言葉、その約束は確かなもので、真理です。 Therefore there is salvation in the death and resurrection of Jesus. ですから、イエス様の死と復活には、救いがあります。
Jesus said, “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.” イエス様は言われました、14:1 「心を騒がせるな。神を信じなさい。そして、私をも信じなさい。」When we believe in God we are walking on the true road to life. 私達は神様を信じる時、私達は命への真理の道を歩いています。 An unbelieving heart will not walk the road of God because it does not accept that Jesus is the road to eternal life. 不信仰の心は神様の道を歩こうと思いません。それは、イエス様が永遠の命の道であると信じないからです。 Or some people just do not know about Jesus and do not know the Gospel. ある人はイエス様や福音を全然知りません。 And so we have to point them to Christ. それで、私達は彼らをキリストに導く必要があります。 These road-signs are called evangelism and witnessing.そのような道路標識は伝道や証しと呼ばれています。
Once on the road, I think Christians have a problem of staying on the road. 一度、この道に入ったクリスチャンの一つの問題とは、その道を続けて歩く事です。 Sometimes we get lost or wander off the path. 道から離れたり、迷ったりします。 Or we take a quick detour into sin and then come back. 又、ちょっと罪の誘惑にまけて、遠まわりをして、あと戻りします。 I think that coming back is the power of faith. 私はこの道に戻る事は、信仰の力だと思います。 We are not always on the straight and narrow path. 私達はいつも狭くて真っすぐな道を歩みません。 But because we believe in Jesus, we want to return to the correct way of life. しかし、私達はイエス様を信じるので、いつも正しい生き方に戻りたいと思います。 In Lutheran theology this is called “simul justus et pecator, at the same time saint and sinner.” ルーテル教会の中の神学的な表現と言いますと、“simul justus et pecator, 同時に罪人であり聖徒です。” Sometimes we are like the disciples Thomas and Philip. 私達はトマスとフィリポのようです。 We just do not understand Jesus. 私達はイエス様の話を理解する事が出来ません。 We don’t understand God’s laws and God’s ways and God’s methods. 神様の律法が分かりません。神様のやり方が分かりません。 We do not know the details of God’s plans. 神様の御計画の細かい所を知りません。 But if we make our own life plans without God, we will not be on the road to heaven. しかし、自分の人生の計画を神様がいないように立てましたら、それは天国への道になりません。
But Jesus told the disciples “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.” しかし、イエス様は弟子達に言われました、「心を騒がせるな。神を信じなさい。そして、わたしをも信じなさい。」 That belief becomes our compass and our map. その信仰は私達のコンパスと地図になります。 Our life follows Jesus on the true road to life. 私達の人生はイエス様に従って、誠の命への道を歩みます。
And so a Christian cemetery is not just a sign of death, but a sign of faith and hope and the comfort of eternal life. それで、クリスチャンの墓地は、ただ死のしるしだけではなくて、信仰と希望と永遠の命の慰めの徴です。
