Christmas Eve, 2014 Luke 2:14 The Christmas Angels sang, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those who have his good will.” Probably we have all heard at least one sermon on the second half of the Angel’s song, “Peace on Earth.” I have preached on it in previous years at Christmas. So tonight, let’s talk about the Glory of God. I was thinking that although the New Testament is written in Greek, when the Angels sang the song that the Shepherds heard, they were not singing in Greek, but probably in Hebrew which the Shepherds would understand. Of course we do not know their original word for sure, but if it were in Hebrew, I would imagine it to be “Hallelujah” or “Hosanna.” It would be the original “Hallelujah Chorus,” sang in praise to God the Father in heaven. Perhaps “glory” is a good translation for “hallelujah.” It is always good to sing “Hallelujah” to God the Father, but I was wondering. Jesus, the Son of God had just been born. What do you usually say to a new father when a child is born? We usually say, “Congratulations!” “Congratulations to God the Father!” His Son, Jesus Christ was born on this earth. And surely God was a proud father. And like all fathers, he had great hope and great plans for his Child. The plan was to save the world from sin. God loved his Son. So when Jesus had to suffer and be crucified to fulfill that plan, I am sure that the loving heart of the Father was grieved, just like when any parent who loses a child they love. The God that is revealed in the Bible has emotion, has feelings. Pride and happiness in creation; anger because of sin; love to his people Israel and love for his people of the church; and joy for a sinner who believes and repents. “Glory to God in the highest.” Congratulations to God. He has done something great. We congratulate winners. Through Christ, the devil has been defeated. Love has been triumphant. There is an old custom in America that when a child is born. The father gives a cigar to his friends. It has a blue band if it is a boy and a red band if it is a girl. Giving gifts is a way to share joy. God gives a gift much greater than a cigar. He gives peace. Peace is a gift; it is an expression of God’s joy and love for the world. Tonight we celebrate with God the Father at the birth of His Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. |
クリスマス・イブ、２０１４年 ルカ２：１４ クリスマスの天使達は歌いました、「いと高きところには栄光、神にあれ、／地には平和、御心に適う人にあれ。」その歌の後半の「平和」について説教をすなくても一度聞いた事があるでしょう。私は以前このテーマのクリスマスの説教をしました。それで、今夜、神様の栄光について考えましょう。 新約聖書は最初にギリシャ語で書かれた物ですが、天使達がその羊飼い達に歌った時、ギリシャ語ではなくて、多分羊飼い達が分かるヘブライ語で歌っただろうと思います。勿論、私達ははっきりその元の言葉を知りませんが、ヘブライ語でしたら、「ハレルヤ」又は「ホサナ」と歌ったと思います。それで、最初の「ハレルヤ・コーラス」でしょう。天の父なる神様に向かって歌いました。「ハレルヤ」を日本語に翻訳すると、「栄光」が適当な表現でしょう。 父なる神様に「ハレルヤ」と歌いましたらいつも素晴らしい事です。しかし、その夜、神様の御子イエス様が生まれたばかりでした。子供が生まれましたら、その新しいお父さんに、何を言うでしょうか。普通言うのは、「おめでとうございます」と言うでしょう。「父なる神様におめでとうございます！」と。神様の御子、イエス・キリストがこの地上にお生まれになりました。確かに、神様も誇りを持っているお父さんでしょう。そして、すべてのお父さんのように、御自分の子供に対する大きな希望と計画がありました。その御計画とは、罪から世を救う事です。神様は御自分の子供を愛しました。それで、イエス様がその御計画を果たす為に苦しみを受けて十字架上に付けられた時、父なる神様の子供を愛する心が悲しんだでしょう。愛する子供を亡くするどんな親と同じでしょう。聖書の中で表わされている神様には感情やフィーリングがあります。天地創造の時の誇りと嬉しさ、罪の為の怒り、御自分の民イスラエルに対する愛、御自分の民である教会に対する愛、福音を信じて悔い改める罪人に対する喜びです。 「いと高きところには栄光、神にあれ。」神様におめでとうございます。神様は素晴らしい事をなさいました。勝利者に「おめでとう」と言います。キリストをとうして、悪魔が征服されました。愛が勝利しました。 アメリカには子供が生まれましたら古い習慣があります。お父さんは友達に葉巻(はまき), シガーをあげます。男の子なら青いレベル、女の子なら赤いレベルがあります。こうして贈り物を挙げますと、自分の喜びを分かち合います。神様は私達にシガーよりはるかに超える素晴らしい贈り物を与えます。平和を下さいます。平和は贈り物です。この世に対する神様の喜びと愛を表します。 今夜私達は、私達の救い主及び神様の御子イエス・キリストの聖降誕の為に、神様と共にお祝いします。 アーメン。 |
