The Resurrected Lord met the Disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, which is also known as the Lake of Galilee. 甦られた主は弟子達とティベリアス湖畔で、即ちガリラヤ湖で会いました。 At the trial of Jesus, Peter had denied Jesus three times, but now Jesus gives Peter three chances to confess his faith. イエス様が裁かれた時、ペトロはイエス様を「知らない《と３回言いました。しかし、今度、イエス様はペトロが信仰を告白するチャンスを３回与えます。 Three times Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me?” ３回イエス様は言われました、「ヨハネの子シモン、私を愛しているか。《 Three times Peter answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” ３回ペトロは答えました、「はい、主よ、私があなたを愛している事は、あなたがご存じです。《 And upon this confession, Jesus said to Peter three times, “Feed my sheep.”この信仰告白の上で、イエス様は３回ペトロに言われました、「私の羊を養いなさい。《
Today we will look at three questions: who are the sheep, how are they fed, and who is Peter. 今日、３つの質問があります：羊は誰ですか、どのように養うか、ペトロはだれですか。
The sheep, of course, are the believers in Christ. 羊とは、勿論、キリストを信じる人です。 They are the ones who follow him who is their Good Shepherd. 良い羊飼いとしてイエス様に従う者です。 Basically, the sheep are Christians who are in the flock of the church. 根本的に言いますと、その羊とは、教会である羊の群に加えられたキリスト信者です。 They are the sheep and the lambs, the old and the young. 羊と子羊、年を取った者も若い者もです。 We are the sheep and lambs of Christ. 私達皆はキリストの羊と小羊です。 To bring more sheep into the flock is called evangelism and this too is part of the work of a shepherd. もっと羊を群に加える事は伝道です、これも羊飼いの仕事です。 After Jesus ascends to heaven, Peter will have responsibility for the believers.イエス様が昇天される後に、ペトロは、信者達の世話の責任を持ちます。
How are the sheep fed and tended and taken care of? どのように羊を飼うか、どのようにその世話をするでしょうか。 Sheep eat grass in the pasture, but people cannot eat grass, we need different food. 羊は草を食べますが、人間が草を食べられないので、他の食べ物が必要です。 We need a balanced diet. バランスの取れた食事が必要です。 In the Lord’s Prayer we pray, “Give us this day our daily bread.” 主の祈りで「われらの日ごとのかてを、今日も与えたまえ《と祈ります。 In the Small Catechism, Martin Luther explains that daily bread is everything we need to live. 小教理問答書で、マルチン・ルターは、日々の糧とは、生きる為に必要の物すべてであると説明します。 It is first food, then clothes and home and family and good government and good weather and all the rest that we personally need for our modern daily life. 食べ物を初め、洋朊、家、家族、良い政府、良い天気、この現代的な生活に必要なすべての物です。 So Peter has a huge responsibility. それでペトロにはすごく大きい責任があります。 The early church in Jerusalem took this to heart. 初期のエルサレムの教会はこれをまじめに考えました。 In the Book of Acts we are told that the believers ate together and no one went hungry. 使徒言行録によりますと、信者達が共に食事をしまして、誰もおなかが空いていませんでした。 The disciples were so busy feeding people that they need the help of seven deacons. 弟子達はこの仕事で大変忙しいので、手伝う為に、７人の執事を選びました。 Many churches today also have the ministry of feeding the hungry. 現代の多くの教会にも、空腹な人を食べさせるミニストリがあります。 They collect food and distribute it to the poor, both the poor of their congregation and the poor of the neighborhood, or even people on the other side of the world.食料品を集めて、貧しい人に配ります。自分の教会の人にも、教会の近所の人にも、地球の反対側の人にもです。
Jesus said, “Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Mt. 4:4). イエス様は言われました、「人はパンだけで生きるものではない。神の口から出る一つ一つの言葉で生きる《(ﾏﾀｲ4:4)。 Jesus said, “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35). 又、「私が命のパンである《と言われました（ﾖﾊﾈ6:35）。 So Peter must nourish the sheep with the Word of God. それで、ペトロは、神様のみ言葉で羊を養います。 This is preaching and teaching the Law of God and the Gospel of Christ. これは、神の律法とキリストの福音を述べ伝えたり教えたりする事です。 It is proclaiming the meaning of the cross and the blessings of the resurrection. 十字架の意味と復活の恵みを語る事です。 It is exposing sin and forgiving sin. 罪を明らかにして、その罪を赦す事です。 It is giving comfort and relief to hearts and souls that are troubled by sin and grief. 罪や悲しみに悩む心や魂に、慰めと力を与える事です。 This is Sunday morning in church and whenever and wherever the Gospel is needed.これは日曜日の朝の教会も、福音が必要であるすべての場所や時です。
Finally, who is Peter? 最後に、ペトロはだれでしょうか。 The disciple Peter, Simon son of John, was the leader of the Disciples and so was the shepherd of the early church. ヨハネの子シモン、即ち弟子ペトロは、弟子達のリーダーだったので、初期教会の羊飼いでした。 But the job of Peter has been passed down through the years to all the leaders of the church who have the job to feed the sheep and lambs of Jesus. しかし、ペトロの仕事は、代々の教会のリーダー達にも、イエス様の羊や小羊を養う人々になります。 It is the pastors, congregation leaders and the workers and helpers in the church, also Sunday school teachers, mothers and fathers in the home, and the like. 牧師、地域教会のリーダー、教会の中で働く人や手伝う人、教会学校の先生、家の親達、などです。In other words, it is all of us. 言い換えますと、私達すべてです。 That is because like Peter we too love Jesus. 何故ならば、ペトロと同じように私達もイエス様を愛するからです。 Through the words of today’s Gospel reading, Jesus speaks to us, too. 今日の福音書の言葉を通して、イエス様は私達にも話します。 Peter denied Jesus three times, but how many times have we not made a full confession of our faith? ペトロはイエス様を知らないと３回も言いました、しかし、私達は何回信仰告白をしないでしょうか。 How many times like Peter have we felt our sin? 何回自分の罪をペトロのように感じたでしょうか。 And so Jesus speaks to us, not three times, not seven times nor seventy times seven, but countless times throughout our lives, because we like sheep wander off and need a Peter to take care of us. それでイエス様は私達に話します、３回だけではなくて、７回ではなくて、７の７０回でもなくて、私達の生涯の中で数えられない程です、何故ならば、私達は迷い出る羊のようで、私達を養うペトロのような羊飼いが必要だからです。
Today Jesus asks each of us, “Do you truly love me?” 今日、イエス様は私達一人一人に聞きます、「私を愛しているか《と。 And because we know the love of Jesus for us, we can truly answer, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” 私達は自分の為のイエス様の愛を知るので、はっきり答えられます、「主よ、あなたは何もかもご存じです。私があなたを愛していることを、あなたはよく知っておられます。《 Jesus has fed us richly with faith and love and forgiveness, and now he says to each of us, “Feed my sheep.”イエス様は愛と信仰と赦しで私達を豊かに養って下さいまして、今なお、私達一人一人に言われます、「私の羊を飼いなさい《と。
