The Bible story for today is Matthew 16:21–28. 今日の聖書の話は、マタイ１６：２１＊２８です。 In last weeks Bible Story, Peter had declared his faith in Jesus as the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of God. 先週の聖書日課には、ペテロが自分の信仰を告白しました、イエス様が神の子・キリスト・メシヤであると言いました。 And Jesus said that on the rock of that confession, he would build his church. イエス様は、その信仰告白の上にご自分の教会を建てると言われました。 In today’s section, Jesus speaks about what it means to be the Messiah. 今日の聖書日課では、メシアである事の意味を話します。 It means suffering, dying on the cross and rising on the third day. その意味とは、苦しみを受け、十字架上で死んで、３日目に復活する事です。 Peter did not understand this and wanted to protect Jesus from such danger. ペテロはそれが分からなかったので、イエス様をそのような危険な事から守りたいと思いました。 But Peter in doing so was doing the work of the devil. しかし、それをすると、それは悪魔の働きになります。 The devil would not want Jesus to die on the cross and win salvation for us. 十字架上で死んで私達人間の救いを得る事は悪魔にとって、そうなって欲しくない事です。 The devil wants us all to die in our sins and go to hell. 悪魔の意志とは、私達皆が罪の中で死んで地獄に行く事です。 So, if Peter were to protect Jesus, Peter would be doing the work of the devil. ですから、もしペテロがイエス様を守る事になったら、ペテロが悪魔の仕事をする事になります。 Therefore Jesus warned Peter, saying, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” イエス様がペテロに注意して言われました。「サタン、引き下がれ。あなたはわたしの邪魔をする者。神のことを思わず、人間のことを思っている。《

Just like Peter, our story is that we too often become a hindrance to Jesus. 私達のストーリとは、私達もペテロのように、イエス様の働きに対して邪魔ものになります。We also become like Satan. 私達もサタンのようになります。 Jesus tells us to get behind him, to get out of his way. それで、イエス様は私達にも言われます。「引き下がれ《邪魔しないでくれと言われます。This happens when we become a hindrance to the cross of Jesus. それは、私達がイエス様の十字架に対して、邪魔なものになる時です。 This can happen in a at least three ways. これが、少なくても３つの方法できます。

First, when we do not proclaim the gospel or won’t let others do it, or don’t empowr others to do it. 先ず、私達が福音を述べ伝えないで、又、他の人も福音を述べ伝えることが出来ないようにする時や福音を述べ伝える人を支援しない事です。

Second, when we are embarrassed by the cross. 二つ目は、十字架を恥ずかしいものだと思う時です。 Like Peter, we might be ashamed that our wonderful Jesus had to suffer so badly and be crucified. ペテロのように、私達の愛する素晴しいイエス様がそんな苦しみを受けて十字架上で死ぬ事が恥ずかしいと思う時です。 We want God’s love and kindness and mercy, but do not want the cross. 私達は神様の愛と親切と憐れみと恵みが欲しいと思いますが、十字架を欲しいと思いません。 Jesus told the disciples that they too would have to take up their crosses and follow Jesus. イエス様は弟子達に言われました、「私について来たい者は、自分を捨て、自分の十字架を背負って、私に従いなさい。《 That is when it is good to be behind Jesus. その時、引き下がって、イエス様の後ろにいる事が良いです。 But at times, we may be like Peter and want to deny Jesus. しかしある時、私達がペテロのように、イエス様を否定して、イエス様を知らないと言うかも知れません。

And thirdly, we become a hindrance to Jesus when we prevent the Gospel from being power in our lives and in the lives of others. 三つ目は、自分の人生の中で、又他の人の人生の中で、福音の力の邪魔になる事です。 Why did Jesus die on the cross? どうしてイエス様が十字架上で死んだのでしょうか。 It was to forgive sin. それは、罪を赦すためでした。 Jesus gave the power and authority to forgive sins to the church. イエス様は教会に罪を赦す権利と力を与えました。 That authority is called the Office of the Keys. この権威は、「鍵の聖務《と呼ばれています。 The true work of the church is to forgive sin.教会の正しい働きとは、罪を赦す事です。 The work of each individual Christian is also to forgive sin. キリスト信者一人一人の働きとも、罪を赦す事です。

Our story is like Peter’s story when we do let the power of the cross become part of our life story. 私達のストーリとペテロのストーリが同じになる時とは、十字架の力を自分の人生の中に入(はい)らせない時です。 When we do not forgive others, we are being a hindrance to the Gospel. 私達が他の人を赦さない時、私達は福音の邪魔になります。 If we get angry at someone and they say that something that we think is absolutely unforgivable, then it is denying the power of the cross. 例えば、人と喧嘩して、その人のぶじょくが「赦す事が出来ない《ほどと思いましたら、それは十字架の力を否定する事です。 How can we want forgiveness from God if we are not willing to forgive someone else? 他の人を赦さなければ、どうして、私達が神様からの赦しを頂きたいと思うでしょうか。 If we do not forgive, we are doing the work of Satan. もし私達が赦さなければ、私達はサタンの働きをしてしまます。 Hate and grudges are satanic. 憎(にく)しみと恨(うら)みはサタンのものです。 And we know where Satan would lead us. そして、サタンが私達を連れて行きたい所が分かるでしょう。

Our story is like Peter’s story, that even though he was a hindrance, even though he denied Jesus three times: Jesus forgave him. 私達のストーリとペテロのストーリが同じになる時とは、ペテロが邪魔なものでしても、ペテロが３度もイエス様を否定して、あの人を知らないと言ったとしても、イエス様は彼を赦しました。 After the resurrection, Jesus forgave him three times; giving him the mission of the church, saying, “Feed my sheep.” 復活の後に、イエス様は彼を３度も赦して下さいました。その時、ペテロに教会のミッションを与えました。「私の羊を飼いなさい《と言われました。 This becomes our story, too. これは、私達のストーリにもなります。 Jesus forgives us not only three times, not just 70 times 7, but uncountable times. イエス様が私達を赦して下さるのは、３度だけではなくて、７の７０倊だけでもなくて、数え切れないほどです。 He forgives us because he loves us. 私達を愛して下さるので、赦して下さいます。 He forgives us because he does not want us to be separated from him. 赦してくださるのは、イエス様が私達から離れたいと思わないからです。 He wants us close behind him, following him.ご自分の近くに、御自分の後ろに、私達がいる事を望んでおられます。

Sometimes it is hard to forgive other people. 他の人を赦す事が難しい時があります。 We have to swallow our pride. 私達は自分のプライドを捨てなければなりません。 We have to control our lust for revenge and punishment. 仕返しや罰を与えたいという欲望を支配しなければなりません。 When we forgive, something dies inside us. 私達が人を赦す時、自分の心の中で死ねなければならないものがあります。 If sin and hate die, that is great. それは、罪と憎しみが死ぬ事です。 It took the death of Jesus to forgive us. 私達を赦す為に、イエス様が死ぬ事が必要でした。 The wrath of God toward us died. その時、私達に対する神様の怒り(いか)が死にました。 Eternal punishment for sin was cancelled, pardoned. 罪に対する永遠の罰がキャンセルになりました。 His death became the source of life. 彼の死が永遠の命の源になりました。His life became our life. 彼の命が私達の命になりました。 In the process of forgiveness, something must die in our hearts, but it gives life to something too. 人を赦す時、自分の心の中で何かが死にますが、同時に、生まれかわったものもあります。 Love and trust and friendship are born. 愛と信頼と友情が生まれます。 That is why forgiveness is so important. ですから、赦しがすごく大切です。 That is why forgiveness is the central teaching of the church. ですから、赦しが教会の中心的な教えです。 Jesus died to forgive our sins, and we live to forgive the trespasses of others.私達の罪を赦す為にイエス様が死んで下さいましたが、私達がたの人の罪を赦す為に生きています。
