古里への預言者
Yesterday was the American Independence Day Holiday. 昨日はアメリカの独立記念日でした。 A lot of Americans living in Okinawa felt a bit homesick and wished they could be back to their native land. 沖縄に住む多くのアメリカ人はホームシックになり、自分の古里がなつかしく、帰りたいと感じたでしょう。 A lot of Okinawan people also wished that the Americans would go back to their native land. In other words, “Yankee go home.” と同時に、多くの沖縄の人は「ヤンキー、ゴーホーム」と感じ、アメリカ人が自分の国に帰って欲しいと感じたでしょう。What would it be like to go home and still not be welcomed there? しかし自分の町に帰っても、もしその古里の人々があなたを受け入れなければ、どうでしょうか。 That is what happened to Jesus. イエス様には、そのような経験がありました。 He went to his hometown but they did not accept him. Mark 6:4, Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown, among his relatives and in his own house is a prophet without honor.” 今日の福音書4節、「マルコ6:4 イエスは、「預言者が敬(うやま)われないのは、自分の故郷(ふるさと)、親戚や家族の間だけである」と言われた。 A prophet is honored by everyone, except by his own people and family. 預言者は皆に尊敬(そんけい)されていますが、自分の家族や自分の民がその予言者を受け入れません。 And yet, Jesus had to preach the Gospel to his family and friends at home. それなのにイエス様は自分の家族や自分の故郷の人々に福音を述べ伝えなければなりませんでした。 That was his mission: to tell everyone the Good News. それは彼に与えられたミッションでした。即ち、すべての人に良い知らせを伝えるためです。 The Old Testament prophet Ezekiel had the same mission. 旧約聖書の預言者エゼキエルにも同じミッションがありました。 The Lord God told him to proclaim the Word of God to his own people of Israel. 自分の民、イスラエルに神の御言葉を述べ伝えるように、主なる神様によって送りだされました。 The Lord warned Ezekiel that they were rebellion, obstinate and stubborn. しかし主はエゼキエルに警告(けいこく)しました。その人々が反抗的(はんこうてき)で、石頭(いしあたま)で、頑固(がんこ)な人です。 God warned him that the people probably would not listen to him. その民がエゼキエルの言葉を聞かないだろうと警告しました。 But still, Ezekiel had the obligation to tell them the Word of God whether they listened or not. それなのに、その神様の御言葉を聞かなくても、それを述べ伝えなければなりませんでした。
Whether Ezekiel, Jesus, a preacher, or any of us, what should a prophet, speak? エゼキエルでしても、イエス様でしても、私達でしても、預言者は何を話すべきでしょうか。 Which Word of God should be spoken? その話、言うすべき神様の御言葉は何でしょうか。 The first public words of Ezekiel were similar to those of Jesus, and they should be our first words too. エゼキエルが最初に語った言葉はイエス様の言葉に似ていて、それは私達の最初の言葉でもあります。 Jesus’ first public words were, Mark 1:15 “The time has come. The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!” イエス様の最初の公の言葉はマルコ１：１５です。「時は満ち、神の国は近づいた。悔い改めて福音を信じなさい」と。
Ezekiel was sent to his fellow Israelites in Babylonian Exile. エゼキエルが、バビロンの捕囚(ほしゅう)となっている自分の国の民、イスラエル人の所に送られました。 Jesus was sent to the Israelites who had returned from Exile back to the Promised Land. イエス様は約束の地に戻って住むイスラエル人の所に送られました。 We are sent to our fellow countrymen, to our own families, or perhaps to others in this global family of the world. 私達も、自分の家族に、又、自分の国の人に、このグローバルな世界的な家族に送られています。 But our message should be the same. 私達のメッセージも同じです。“The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!” 「時は満ち、神の国は近づいた。悔い改めて福音を信じなさい」と。 In other words, we should first proclaim the existence of God, the love of God, that God is near us to help us, and that God wants to guide our lives. 言い換えますと、まず私達は神様の存在を述べ伝え、そして神様の愛、神様が私達を助ける為に私達の近くにおられる事、そして神様が私達の人生を導く事を述べ伝えます。 God wants us to be good citizens in his Kingdom with all ethical, moral and spiritual goodness. 私達は御国の良い国民として、すべての道徳(どうとく)、倫理(りんり)、霊的(れいてき)な良い(よ)業(わざ)を要求されます。 Repentance means to recognize your failures and to want to change. 悔い改めとは、自分の失敗(しっぱい)を認(み)めて、自分の人生を変えたいと思う事です。 And believing the Good News is the power for forgiveness and sanctification, and a new life. そして福音を信じることとは、赦しと清めと新しい人生を送る力です。
On the Fourth of July, Americans talk a lot about patriotism and the love of their country. 毎年７月４日になりますと、アメリカ人は自分の国を愛する事、愛国心についてよく話します。 Modern Japanese do not seem to talk so much about these ideals, but wherever you go in Japan there is pride of being a Japanese and the pride of ones own prefecture or community. Okinawans love their Island. 現在の日本人はあまりその理想について話しませんが、日本中どこに行っても、人々には自分の県や自分の古里に対するプライドがあります。沖縄の人はこの島を愛します。 It is necessary to love your country. 自分の国を愛する事が大切です。 Jesus said, “Love your neighbor.” イエス様は「隣人を愛しなさい」と言われました。This includes loving and serving your neighbors in your country and your community. それに含(ふく)まれているのは、隣人がいる自分の国や町を愛して奉仕(ほうし)する事です。 You do not need to be a prophet to know that your country and community need to repent. 自分が預言者ではなくても、自分の国や社会の中には悔い改める必要性があると見ます。 Our beloved countries are not perfect. 私達の愛する故郷や国は完全ではありません。 Do we need to make a list of the sins? その罪をリストアップする必要があるでしょうか。 For example, there is violence, greed, theft, murder, sexual harassment and abuse, drunken driving, self-centeredness, all sorts of prejudices, etc. 例えば、暴力、欲張り、強盗、殺人、性的暴力、酒酔い運転、自己中心的な行動、いろいろの差別などなど。 The people of our countries and communities need to repent and change. 私達の国や故郷の人々には悔い改めて変わる必要があります。 So, we need to be the voice of God to them. ですから私達は、彼らに対する神様の声になる必要があります。 We need to be the voice that calls for moral, ethical, and spiritual standards. 道徳的,倫理的、そして霊的模範(もはん)の為の声です。 We need to stand for honesty, for justice, for freedom, rand for integrity. 誠実さ、正直と自由と正義の為の声です。
The Bible tells us that God so loved the world that he sent his only beloved Son, Jesus Christ. 聖書が教えるのは、神様はこの世を愛して下さったので、御自分の一人の子を送られたと言うことです。 John 3:16. ヨハネ３：１６「3:16 神は、その独り子をお与えになったほどに、世を愛された。独り子を信じる者が一人も滅びないで、永遠の命を得るためである。」 Jesus spoke words of judgment against the sins of his fellow countrymen. イエス様は罪に対する裁きを、御自分の国の人達に話しました。 But he spoke also words of God’s love to those who would hear. しかし聞く耳のある人には神様の愛も話しました。 And Jesus showed the result of that sin. そしてイエス様はその罪の結果をも彼らに見せました。 He was killed on the cross. 十字架上で殺されました。 Then Jesus showed the result of repentance and faith, he rose from the dead on the third day.又イエス様は悔い改めと信仰の結果も見せました。３日目に甦りました。
The Bible tells us that Jesus loved the world so much that he sent the disciples out into all the world. イエス様がこの世を愛して下さったので弟子達を全世界に送られたと、聖書は教えます。 They were to proclaim the simple message that Jesus proclaimed. 彼等はイエス様が語られたと同じ、簡単なメッセージを述べ伝えました。 Mark 6:12-13 says, “They went out and preached that people should repent. They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them.” マルコ６:12-13が言います、「十二人は出かけて行って、悔い改めさせるために宣教した。そして、多くの悪霊を追い出し、油を塗って多くの病人をいやした。」 The Kingdom of God has come to the kingdoms of this world—to the kingdoms and the democracies and dictatorships, too. 神の国は今のこの時代の国々にも来ました。王国にも、民主主義の国にも、独裁者(どくさいしゃ)のいる国にも来ました。
We have heard the word that we too must repent and believe the Gospel. 私達もその悔い改めと信仰への言葉を聞きました。 We know that our sins are forgiven through the death and resurrection of Jesus. イエス様の死と復活によって自分の罪が赦されていると知っています。 The Kingdom of God has come into our hearts. 神の国が私達の心に来ました。 This is why we love and pray for the kingdoms and countries of the world. ですから、私達はこの世の国々の為に祈ります。 We pray for world peace. 世界平和のために祈ります。 We pray for love and mutual understanding. 愛とお互いの理解の為に祈ります。We pray for justice. 正義の為に祈ります。 We pray for economic and political and social stability. 経済や政治上や社会的な安定の為にも祈ります。 And we pray that the people of the world would know the true source of peace in their lives: that they would know the love of Jesus. 同時にこの世の人々が、誠の人生の平和の源を知るように祈ります。即ちイエス様の愛を知るように祈ります。 This is when we become more than social reformers and become prophets. その時、私達はただの社会的な改革者よりも、預言者になります。 This is real love for our neighbors. これは隣人に対する本当の愛です。
