Above the head of Jesus on the cross were these words: “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews (INRI).” イエス様が十字架につけられた時、ピラトは罪状書きを書いて、十字架の上に掛けました。それには、「ナザレのイエス、ユダヤ人の王《19:19と書いてありまた。 Those words were true. その言葉は正しかったです。 The Christmas story clearly shows that Jesus was in the line of King David, so Jesus had the right to be the King of the Jews. クリスマスの話は、イエス様がダビデ王の家系にいましたので、ユダヤ人の王になる資格があったと教えます。 He was the legitimate king even if not officially crowned. 正式に冠を受けなくても、イエス様はユダヤ人の王でした。
Pilate had the words written, but he did not believe them. ピラトはその言葉を書いてもらったのですが、その言葉を信じませんでした。 He did not think that Jesus was a king of any sort, perhaps a religious nut, but no king. イエス様は、どんな王でもないと思いました。宗教の狂っている者かもしれませんが、王ではありません。 Pilate had those words written in order to spite the Jews, to make them angry, to get back at them for causing him problems. その言葉を書いていたのは、ユダヤ人を怒らせる為でした、自分にかけられた面倒を返す為でしょう。 He wanted to make fun of the Jews.ユダヤ人をぶじょくしました。
The Jews wanted to kill Jesus on the charge of blasphemy. ユダヤ人のイエス様に対する告発とは、神様を冒涜した事です。 They did not believe that Jesus was the Christ, the Messiah, the Savior, the Son of God. イエス様がキリスト、即ちメシア即ち、即ち救い主、即ち神の子である事を信じませんでした。 They thought that it was wrong that Jesus was making himself equal to God. イエス様が御自分を神様と同じようにした事が悪いと思いました。 They did not believe in Jesus, and so they charged him with blasphemy, which is punishable by death.イエス様を信じませんでしたので、死刑に当たる冒涜の罪に告発しました。
They had to have the Roman government official execute Jesus, so they brought him to Pilate. 人を死刑にする権限がなかったので、ユダヤ人はローマの政府の総督の所にイエス様を連れて行きました。 But the civil government of Rome cannot judge religious cases, so they had to make up a new charge. しかし、ピラトが民事のケースを裁く事が出来ますが、宗教的なものを裁かないので、ユダヤ人達は新しい罪を告発する事が必要でした。 Pilate would not understand the Jewish idea of “messiah,” so they used the word “king.” ピラトはユダヤ教の「メシア《の意味が分からないので、「王《と言う言葉を使いました。 This would mean that Jesus broke the laws of Rome: he would be a traitor to Caesar, or an insurrectionist. それで、イエス様がローマの法律を破る、皇帝カイザルの裏切り者、反逆者です。
Pilate thought that Jesus was innocent, but he wanted to have fun. ピラトはイエス様が無罪と思いましたが、遊びたいと思いました。 So the soldiers put a crown of thorns on his head, clothed him in a royal purple robe, and said, “Hail, king of the Jews” 19:2-3. ですから、兵士達は茨の冠を彼の頭に載せ、偉い人の紫の朊をまとわせ、「ユダヤ人の王、万歳《19:2-3と言いました。 And then Pilate brought Jesus out to the Jews. そのまま、イエス様をユダヤ人の前に立たせました。 “Here is the man” 19:5. 「見よ、この男だ《19:5、 “Here is your king” 19:14. 「見よ、あなたたちの王だ《19:14と言いました。 When the Jews said “We have no king but Caesar” 19:15, they rejected the Kingship of God, thus committing blaspheme themselves.ユダヤ人達は「私達には、皇帝のほかに王はありません《19:15と言った時、彼らは神様が自分達の王であるのを否定して、このようにして自分達こそが神を冒涜しました。
What other the words could have been on the cross? 十字架に書かれた別の言葉でしたら、どの言葉が良いでしょうか。 Perhaps, “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the World,” perhaps, “Jesus of Nazareth, Savior of the World.” 「ナザレのイエス、世界の王《や「ナザレのイエス、世の救い主《はどうでしょうか。 Or maybe best, would be the words of John the Baptist when Jesus came to be baptized, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” 1:29. 又、一番良いのは、バプテスマのヨハネの言葉でしょうか。洗礼を受ける為にイエス様が来られた時、言いました、「見よ、世の罪を取り除く神の小羊だ《1:29。 On the cross, Jesus became the perfect Passover Lamb. 十字架上で、イエス様は完璧な過ぎ越しの羊になりました。 That is the meaning of the words of scripture quoted in John 19:36. “Not one of his bones will be broken.” それは、ヨハネ19章39節の言葉の意味です、「その骨は一つも砕かれない《。 In Exodus 12:46 and Numbers 9:12 these words refer to the Passover dinner lamb. 出エジプト記12:46 と民数記9:12では、この言葉は過ぎ越しの祭りの食事の羊の事です。
So Jesus fulfilled those words. こうしてイエス様はこの言葉を成就しました。 He delivered us from the sin of the world. 私達を世の罪から救い出しました。 That fear and hate and greed, that injustice and cruelty and pain, that mocking and unbelief and persecution – all these were upon Jesus. その恐れとにくしみと欲張り、その上正義と残酷と苦しみ、その侮辱と上信仰と迫害のすべてが、イエス様の上にありました。 It was like the Passover lamb in Egypt that saved the people of Israel so that they could flee in safety. エジプトでの過ぎ越しの羊が、イスラエルの民が安全にエジプトから出られるように救い出しました。 Likewise Jesus died in order that we might live and be safe from the eternal slavery of death and hell. 同じように、イエス様は、私達を永遠の死と地獄の奴隷状態から安全になって生きるように、死んで下さいました。 When he died Jesus said, “It is finished” 19:30. 死ぬ時、イエス様は言われました「成し遂げられた《19:30と。 The work of salvation was finished. The sacrifice was complete. Our sin was forgiven.救いのが働きが終わりました。犠牲は完了しました。私達の罪が赦されました。
He was laid in a tomb. イエス様はお墓に紊osaめられました。 He was raised from the tomb on the third day. 三日目に甦りました。 And now through the baptismal faith given to us by the Holy Spirit, we can truly know the identity of the person on the cross. 今、聖霊から下さった洗礼の信仰によって、私達は十字架上にかけられた人の本当のアイデンテティを知ります。 With John the Baptist we confess and say, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.”バプテスマのヨハネと共に、信仰告白して言います、「見よ、世の罪を取り除く神の小羊だ《と。
