「人は皆、罪を犯して神の栄光を受けられなくなっていますが、ただキリスト・イエスによる贖いの業を通して、神の恵みにより無償で義とされるのです。《
October is “Lutheran Reformation Month.” １０月は「ルーテル宗教改革の月《です。 And it is especially important this year because it is the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. 今年は宗教改革５００周年にあたります。 On October 31, 1517 Martin Luther posted his famous 95 Theses on the Castle Church door in Wittenberg, Germany. 1517年10月31日にマルティン･ルターは、ドイツのウィッテンベルグ町の城教会のドアに、彼の有吊な９５か条を貼りました。That was the start of the Reformation. それは宗教改革の始まりでした。 After that, through many debates and controversies and official statements and confessions of belief, the Holy Spirit was guiding Christians to understand the wonderful Gospel of Jesus Christ. その後、多くの論争、喧嘩、政府の宣言、信仰告白などによって、聖霊はクリスチャン達がイエス･キリストの素晴らしい福音を理解するように導いて下さいました。 As a sermon series this October, I want to focus each week on one of the important themes of the Reformation. 今年の１０月の説教シリーズとして、毎週、宗教改革時代の大切なテーマを一つづつ見たいと思います。 Today the theme is “grace alone.” 今日のテーマは「恵みのみ《です。 Each week the sermon outline will be this: 毎週の説教のアウトラインは同じです: A. Definition of terms, A.言葉の定義、 B. Why it was important at the time of the Reformation, B.どうして宗教改革時代が大切か、and C. Why it is important for us today.そしてC.どうして今日も私達に大切かと。
A. Let’s define the term “grace.” A. 先ず、「恵み《と言う言葉の定義です。 The Latin word is “gratia” and the Greek word is “charis” and the Hebrew word is “chen.” ラテン語では“gratia”で、ギリシャ語では“charis” で、ヘブライ語では“chen”です。In the Bible it means “favor.” 聖書の中には、この言葉の意味とは、「好意kōi《です。 It means that God likes something, or is pleased with someone. 神様が何かを好konoみます、誰かが好suきです。 It is like the words of the benediction at the end of church, 礼拝の最後の祝福のようです、“The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace.” 「主があなたを祝福し、あなたを守られるように、主がみ顔をもってあなたを照らし、あなたを恵まれるように、主がみ顔をあなたに向け、あなたに平安を賜るように。《 According to Genesis 6:8, God did not destroy the whole fallen world of sinners in the great flood because God liked Noah, 創世記６：８によりますと、神様が堕落した罪人ばかりの世界を完全に破壊されなかった理由とは、神様はノアが好きだからです。“Noah found grace in the eyes of God.” 「しかし、ノアは主の好意を得た。《 But according to Roman 3:23-24, this time God showed this grace to all people even though we are sinners, しかし、ローマ３：２３＊２４によりますと、私達が罪人でしても、今度 神様はすべての人々にご自分の恵みを下さいました。 “Since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, they are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus.” 「人は皆、罪を犯して神の栄光を受けられなくなっていますが、ただキリスト・イエスによる贖いの業を通して、神の恵みにより無償で義とされるのです。《 Grace is like a gift. 恵みはギフトのようです。 It is love. 愛です。 It is mercy. 憐れみです。 It is free. 無償です。 It is not wages; it is not something that we work for. 賃金ではないで、得る為に働くものではありません。 It is a one-way action of God. 神様からの片道の行動です。 Sometimes we use the word “grace” as a verb meaning that God gives us something. ある時、「恵み《と言う言葉を動詞で使います；その意味では、神様は私達に何かを与えます。 He graces us good weather, good food, and his presence. 良い天気、おいしい食事、ご自分の臨在で私達を恵まれます。 And so the word grace means something that is good, beautiful, and even elegant. それで、「グレース《と言う言葉はとっても良い、綺麗な、優雅なものを表します。 A graceful dancer has been gifted, or graced by God, with that talent.「グレースフル《な踊り子は、神様からそのタレントを頂きまして、恵まれました。
B. At the time of the Reformation, grace became something to fight about. B. 宗教改革時代には、恵みについて論争がありました。 Actually, everyone believed and taught that we are saved by God’s grace, the Roman Catholics, the Lutherans, and other Protestants, too. 実は、皆が信じて教えたのは、私達が神様の恵みによって救われる事です、ローマカトリックも、ルーテル派も、他のプロテスタント派もです。 The opposite of God’s grace would be his wrath and the death of all sinners. 神様の恵みの反対とは、神様の怒りで、全ての罪人の死です。 Humans can not live eternally in heaven without the work of God. 神様の働きがなければ、人間は永遠に天国で生きる事が出来ません。 Everyone knew we are saved by the grace of God. 皆は、私達が神様の恵みによって救われていると知りました。 The controversy started when the Lutherans said that we are saved by grace “alone,” “sola gratia-solely by grace.” 論争になったのは、ルーテル派の人々が、恵み「のみ《と言い始めた時です。「Sola Gratia-恵みのみ《です。 This is based on the teaching of St. Paul in the Book of Romans. これは聖パウロのローマ人への手紙の教えに基づいています。 Previously people were taught that we are saved by grace plus our works. 以前 人々に教えられたのは、私達が救われたのは、神様の恵みプラス私達の働きによるである事でした。 We had to be good people before getting God’s grace. 神様の恵みを得るために、先ず、私達は良い人になる事が必要でした。 If we were good people then God would like us and give us his favor, his grace, and his salvation. もし私達が良い人でしたら、神様は私達が好きになって、ご自分の好意、ご自分の恵み、救いを下さいます。 But could we ever be good enough? しかし、私達は充分良くなる事が出来るでしょうか。 No, we could never be. いいえ、決して出来ません。 Only Jesus Christ can be good enough. 充分良いお方とは、イエス・キリストだけです。 And Jesus gives us his goodness. そして、イエス様は私達に御自分の良さを私達に下さいます。 He graces us with the forgiveness of sin. 罪の赦しによって私達を恵まれます。 It is redemption. それは購いです。 It is justification by his grace as a gift. 神の恵みにより無償で義とされるのです。 We can do nothing to earn it. We do nothing to get it. それを得る為に私達は何も出来ません。 Therefore it is a gift. ですから、ギフトです。 Therefore it is “grace alone.” ですから「恵みのみ《です。 This is what the reformers taught.宗教改革者達はこのことを教えました。
C. This is important for us today C. 今日の私達にも大切です。 because a) we are mistakenly told by Sunday school teachers that we have to be good little boys and girls if we want to go to heaven何故ならば、a) 教会学校の先生達が私達にまちがって言うのは、天国に行きたいと思いましたら、良い子になりなさいと。and b) everything in our culture is against the idea of “grace alone.” 又b) 私達の社会の全部が｢恵みのみ｣の考えと全然違うからです。 It is so in economics, society, politics, work, school and in the family, too. 経済的に始め、社会的、政治的、仕事や学校や家族の中にもそうです。 We are taught that success in life is gained by what we work hard for. 人生の成功を得る為に、よく働かなければなりませんと教えられています。 Grace seems like a cheap, easy way out. 恵みとは、やさしく、簡単で、安い方法みたいです。 Of course it was not cheap for Jesus. しかし、実は、イエス様の為に安くはありませんでした。 To give us grace Jesus had to pay for it on the cross with his life blood. 私達に恵みを与える為に、十字架上で御自分の命の血で払いました。 That is why grace is a very valuable, costly thing. それで、恵みはとっても大事な，高価なものです。 In the Old Testament, people could buy forgiveness by sacrificing a lamb on the altar. 旧約聖書の時代、神殿の祭壇で羊をいけにえとしてささげる事によって赦しを買う事が出来ました。 At the time of Luther, the church taught that you could buy forgiveness. ルターの時代には、教会の教えとは、赦しを買う事が出来る事です。 You could buy grace, with indulgences and other things. 免罪符などで、神様の恵みを買う事が出来ると教えました。 But how can you buy something that has an infinite price tag? しかし、無限の値段のものをどのように買うことが出来るでしょうか。 And why buy something that is free? 無償のものをどのように買う事が出来るでしょうか。 When you receive something that is free, a gift, a present, what is your reaction? ただの物をもらう時、ギフトや贈り物をもらう時、どう反応しますか。 It is gratification; you are pleased to receive grace. 感謝です、心から嬉しいです。 You say “thank you.” [E.g., Spanish.] 「ありがとう《と言います。 In gratification of God’s sola gratia, in the freedom of that free gift, we show our thanks in our lives. 神様のsola gratia に感謝して、その自由を与える無償のギフトをもらって、自分の人生の中でその感謝を表します。 Because we will go to heaven we try to be good little boys and girls. 私達は天国に行くので、良い子になろうと思います。 Therefore we try to share God’s grace with the world, starting with those close to us whom we love.愛する人と共に、この世の多くの人々と共に、神様の恵みを分かちあいたいと思います。
