Gospel Reading: Matthew 18:12–20 [Restoration of the Wanderer.]

What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.
“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

18:12 あなたがたはどう思うか。ある人が羊を百匹持っていて、その一匹が迷い出たとすれば、九十九匹を山に残しておいて、迷い出た一匹を捜しに行かないだろうか。18:13 はっきり言っておくが、もし、それを見つけたら、迷わずにいた九十九匹より、その一匹のことを喜ぶだろう。18:14 そのように、これらの小さな者が一人でも滅びることは、あなたがたの天の父の御心ではない。」
18:15 「兄弟があなたに対して罪を犯したなら、行って二人だけのところで忠告しなさい。言うことを聞き入れたら、兄弟を得たことになる。18:16 聞き入れなければ、ほかに一人か二人、一緒に連れて行きなさい。すべてのことが、二人または三人の証人の口によって確定されるようになるためである。18:17 それでも聞き入れなければ、教会に申し出なさい。教会の言うことも聞き入れないなら、その人を異邦人か徴税人と同様に見なしなさい。18:18 はっきり言っておく。あなたがたが地上でつなぐことは、天上でもつながれ、あなたがたが地上で解くことは、天上でも解かれる。18:19 また、はっきり言っておくが、どんな願い事であれ、あなたがたのうち二人が地上で心を一つにして求めるなら、わたしの天の父はそれをかなえてくださる。18:20 二人または三人がわたしの名によって集まるところには、わたしもその中にいるのである。」

Last month there were some horrible landslides in Hiroshima. 先月広島には、恐ろしい山崩れがありました。 The mud and rocks and trees came sliding down the mountain side, burying homes and the people inside. 泥と岩と木が山の斜面から滑って来て、住宅とその中にいた人を押し流してしまいました。 The rescue team came as soon as they could. 救急隊がすぐ来ました。 Some people were rescued, but still over 70 people were killed in the natural disaster. 助けられた人がいましたが、70人以上がこの災害で殺されました。 Rescue squads are sent whenever there is a disaster: floods, typhoons, and earthquakes. 救援部隊(kyuuennbutai)が送られるのは、洪水や台風や津波や地震の時です。 Another type of rescue squad is when someone is kidnapped and held hostage. The police swat team or a military Special Forces team comes to the rescue. 又、誘拐事件(yuukaijiken)や敵の人質(hitojichi)に取られた時、警察特殊隊などがその人を解放するように働きます。 When a child is lost in the woods or there is a missing airplane, a search team is called out.　山の中で子供が迷う時、飛行機が墜落(tsuiraku)した時、救急隊が探しに行きます。

God’s rescue plan is John 3:16. “God so loved the world with all its disasters and evil and sin, that he SENT his son to RESCUE the world so that all who believe in Him as their Rescuer and Savior may not PERISH, but have everlasting life.”
神様の救助(kyuujo)プランはヨハネ3：16です。「神は、その独り子を、世を救い出すの為にお与えになったほどに、天災と悪と罪に困らされている世を愛された。独り子を自分の救い主や救助主として信じる者が一人も滅びないで、永遠の命を得るためである。」

Jesus is the Good Shepherd. イエス様は良い羊飼いです。 He told us that the Son of Man had come to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10). 言われました、「人の子は、失われたものを捜して救うために来たのである」（ルカ19:10）。In today’s Gospel lesson, the Shepherd who leaves the 99 in a safe place and seeks the lost sheep is Jesus Christ. 今日の福音書には九十九匹の羊を山に残しておいて、迷い出た一匹を捜す羊飼いがいます。その羊飼いとは、イエス･キリストです。 God the Father in Heaven does not want a single sheep to be lost. 天の父なる神様は、さ迷っている、いかなる一匹の羊でさえも失われて欲しくありません。 He does not want a single human being to be lost. 失われて死ぬ一たった一人の人さえも、死んで欲しくありません。 This is why he sent his Son Jesus to this world. この理由で、この世に御子イエス様を遣わしになりました。 Jesus said, “Repent and believe in the Gospel.” イエス様はいわれました、「悔い改めて福音を信じなさい」と。 That means, quit wandering and come home to God. その意味とは、「さまよわないで、神様の家に帰りなさい」と。And God rejoices when even a single sheep comes home.　　 それで一匹の羊でも帰りますと、神様は喜びます。 In searching for the lost sheep, Jesus searches all over this world. さ迷っている羊を探して、イエス様は全世界を探します。 In the search, Jesus went to Mt. Calvary, where he was crucified. イエス様はゴルゴダの山まで行って、そこで十字架につけられました。 In his search Jesus went to hell, not to be punished, but to find the sheep he loved and bring them safely to heaven. この捜索（そうさく）に、イエス様は地獄まで行きました。それは苦しめられる為ではなくて、御自分の愛する羊を見つける為に、安全に天国に帰らせる為でした。 Jesus comes to our hearts and says, “You have been found. Come home.” イエス様は私達の心にこられて、「あなたは見つけられていますよ。一緒に帰りましょう」と。

many times has Jesus searched for you? イエス様はあなたを何回探したででしょうか。 How many times have you broken the Ten Commandments? あなたは十戒を何回破ったでしょうか。 Jesus does not give up. イエス様はあきらめません。 We often use the words “repentance, or confession, and forgiveness or absolution.” 「悔い改めと赦し」という言葉をよく使います。 “You have been found. You have been forgiven. Come home.” 即ち、「あなたは見つけられていますよ。赦されていますよ。帰りましょう。」と。 Peter once asked Jesus, “How many times do I have to search out and forgive my brother? Seven times?” And Jesus answered, “Not seven times, but seventy times seven.” (Mt.18:21-22) ペテロはある時、イエス様に聞きました。「主よ、兄弟がわたしに対して罪を犯したなら、何回赦すべきでしょうか。七回までですか。」 イエスは言われました。「あなたに言っておく。七回どころか七の七十倍までも赦しなさい。」（マタイ18:21-22)。 In other words, uncountable times, always forgive without end. 言い代えますと、数え切れないほど、絶えず赦し続ける事です。 That is the way God forgives us. それは、神様が私達を赦す方法です。 His mercy and love is endless. As the Psalmist (Ps.136) says, “His love endures forever.” 神様の憐れみと愛は無限です。詩篇136編が言うように、「慈しみはとこしえに。」 PTL. 神に感謝します！

In today’s Gospel lesson, Jesus says, “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.” 今日の福音書でイエス様は言われます。18:15 「兄弟があなたに対して罪を犯したなら、行って二人だけのところで忠告しなさい。言うことを聞き入れたら、兄弟を得たことになる。」The brother is like a lost sheep. その兄弟は迷っている羊のようです。 He needs to be found. 見つけられなければなりません。 He needs to be forgiven. 赦されなければなりません。 He needs to come home. 帰らせなければなりません。 If you cannot find the brother, take a search party with you. その兄弟を見つけられなければ、ほかの人を連れて探せばいいです。 Perhaps he will listen to other people and mend his ways. もしかしたら、そのほかの人の言葉を聞き入れて自分の罪深い行いを直すかもしれません。If not, get a bigger search party, and then a bigger one. そうしなければ、今度、多くの人々を連れていって、彼を探しましょう。

Pray in Jesus’ Name that the brother will come home. イエス様の御名によって、兄弟が帰るように祈りましょう。About this, Jesus said, “Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” これについて、イエス様は言われました、「18:19 また、はっきり言っておくが、どんな願い事であれ、あなたがたのうち二人が地上で心を一つにして求めるなら、わたしの天の父はそれをかなえてくださる。18:20 二人または三人がわたしの名によって集まるところには、わたしもその中にいるのである。」Jesus is in the search party, too!イエス様も私達の捜索隊の中にいます。

That is the way God operates. それが神様のやり方です。God’s love and mercy and patience and forgiveness are infinite. 神様の愛と憐れみと忍耐と赦しは無限です。 He is the Good Shepherd. 神様は良い羊飼いです。 He searches for us, for you and for me. 私達を探して下さいます。 And when he finds us, God rejoices. 私達を見つけますと、神様は喜びます。 The church rejoices.　教会も喜びます。Individually, we are happy to be found.　一人一人の見付けられた人は嬉しいです。
