There were six five people on the Mount of Transfiguration: Jesus, Moses and Elijah, and the three disciples Peter, James and John. 変容の山の上に６人がいました。イエス様、モーセとエリヤ、そして３人の弟子達、ペトロ、ヨハネとヤコブでした。
Jesus, Moses and Elijah were talking about the work of Salvation that Jesus was about to do in Jerusalem. イエス様、モーセとエリヤは、エルサレムでイエス様の救いの働きについて話し合いました。 It would be a new Exodus. This time it would not be an exodus from slavery in Egypt, but it would be an exodus from the slavery of sin and hell. この新しい出エジプトのような救いは、エジプトでの奴隷からの救いではなく、罪と地獄の奴隷状態からの救いです。 We do not know the exact content of their conversation, but maybe they were there mostly to give moral support and courage to Jesus and especially to the disciples who witnessed the scene. 私達はその３人の話の本当の言葉を知りませんが、多分、イエス様を支える為に勇気を与えたでしょう。同時に、特に、その場面を見た弟子たちにも、彼らを支える為の勇気を与えたでしょう。
Perhaps Moses could talk about how he led the people out into the wilderness and how he had constant struggles with them for forty years. もしかしたら、モーセの話は、どのようにイスラエルの為に、エジプトから荒れ野に導いて、そしてどのようにその次の４０年間、いつもその民と戦ったかについて話したでしょう。 But Moses knew the plan of God to bring His people into the Promised Land, and so Moses had courage and patience and endurance to keep leading the stubborn people. しかしモーセは神様の御計画を知りました。その御計画とは、御自分の民を約束の地に連れて来る事です。それで、そのへそ曲がりの人達を指導する為に忍耐としのびがありました。 Likewise, Jesus would free people from Hell, but still people would grumble and complain. 同じように、イエス様は人々を地獄から救い出しますが、人はいつも不平をぶつぶつ言うでしょう。 Maybe Moses’ story would be good advice to Peter. 多分モーセの話は、ペトロにとって良いアドバイスになるでしょう。 The new church of Christ would have many problems in the years after Jesus died and rose and ascended into heaven. イエス様が死んで甦った後に、キリストの新しい教会の中には、多くの問題が起こります。 Like Moses, Peter had problems too. モーセのように、ペトロにも多くの問題がありました。 But just like Moses, both Peter then and the Church today must remember the Salvation Event and the Salvation Promise. そして、モーセのように、ペトロも現代の教会も覚えなければならないのは、その救いの出来事と救いの約束です。 This is what gives courage and patience and endurance to us. それこそは私達に勇気と忍耐と耐え偲ぶ力を与えます。 We know that Jesus died on the cross to forgive our sin, and we know he will come again to take us to the Promised Land of Heaven. 私達の罪を赦す為にイエス様は十字架上で死んで下った事を知り、天国の約束の地に私達を連れていく為に、再び来られるのをも知ります。 Meanwhile, we are in the wilderness of this earth, but we are fed with the heavenly manna, the body and blood of our Lord. しかし今私達はこの荒れ野のような地にいます。しかし、天からのマナに食べさせられています。即ち、キリストの血と体です。 We are nourished by the daily bread from the Creator’s hand. 又、私達の創造主の御手から、毎日の糧によって生かされています。 Therefore we have joy and love in our lives. ですから、人生の喜びと愛があります。
Perhaps Moses would talk about the Law of God that he received on Mt. Sinai. もしかしたらモーセの話は、シナイ山の上で受けた神様の律法について話したでしょう。 Perhaps he would explain that it was that Law that condemned Jesus so that he must die on the cross. どのようにその律法はイエス様に宣告して、彼が十字架上で死ななければならないかについて説明するでしょう。 The Law says that sinners must be punished, even that they must die for grave offences. 律法によりますと、罪人を罰するように命令します。そして、ひどい罪でしたら死刑になります。 Well, when Jesus took upon himself the sin of the world, he had to take the consequences of that action. それで、イエス様が御自分の上に世の罪を取った時、その罪の罰をも御自分の上に取らなければなりません。 With the sin comes the punishment for that sin. 罪と共にその罪に対する罰もあります。 So when Jesus took our sins from us, he also took the punishment. それで、私達から私達の罪を取った時、イエス様はその罪の罰をも取りました。 That is the way of Justice in the Law of God. それは神様の律法の正義です。 It is called “sacrifice.” それが「犠牲」と呼ばれています。 It is called “redemption” or “expiation” or “propitiation” or “ransom.” 又、「贖い」と呼ばれています。 It is called “substitute.” 又、「身の代わり」と呼ばれています。 It is called “taking the place of someone else.” 「別の人の代わり」と呼ばれています。 In the Law of Moses, this is done with the sacrificial lamb. モーセの律法で、これは犠牲の羊になります。 In the Gospel, Jesus becomes the “Lamb of God that Takes a way the Sin of the World.” 福音で、イエス様は「世の罪を取り除く神の子羊」になります。 The Disciple John was on the mountain of Transfiguration. 弟子のヨハネは変貌の山にいました。 This theme is very big in the Gospel Book that he wrote. 彼の書いた福音書の中には、これが大きなテーマです。 The glory of Law of Mt. Sinai will be replaced by the glory of the Gospel of Mt. Calvary. シナイ山の律法の栄光は、ゴルゴダの山の福音の栄光になります。 Jesus will die as the perfect Passover Lamb, whose blood will be the sign to protect us and bring us salvation.イエス様は完全な過ぎ越しの羊として死にますので、彼の血は私達を守る、私達を救い出すしるしになります。
The Prophet Elijah was also on the Mount of Transfiguration. 預言者エリヤも変貌の山にいました。 The Bible says that he did not die but that he was taken to heaven in a fiery chariot. 聖書によりますと、彼は死なないで、火の馬車で天国に連れられていきました。 Elijah was a mighty prophet. エリヤは力強い預言者でした。 He lived at a time when many people in Israel had forgotten the love of God. 彼の時代に、多くのイスラエル人は神様の愛を忘れました。 Many people had forsaken the Lord and had started worshiping Baal. 主なる神様を捨てて、バアルの神々を拝みました。 But Elijah was bold in proclaiming the will of the Lord God of Israel both in word and in signs. しかし、エリヤは強い言葉としるしによって主なる神様の御心を述べ伝えました。 King Ahab wanted to kill him, but he escaped. アハブ王はエリヤを殺そうと思いましたが、エリヤは逃げました。 The Disciple James was on the mountain of Transfiguration. 変貌の山には弟子ヤコブがいました。 Perhaps James was given courage and strength by Elijah. ヤコブはエリヤから勇気と力を得たでしょう。 James was a leader in the new Church and he boldly proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus. ヤコブは新しい教会の指導者で、大胆にイエス様の福音を述べ伝えました。 However, King Herod persecuted the church and killed James with the sword (Acts 12:2). しかしヘロデ王は教会を迫害して、剣でヤコブを殺しました（使徒12:2）。 Throughout the history of the Church, many people have had this same courage, because they saw the glory of Jesus. 教会の歴史の中で、多くの信者達にはその同じ勇気がありました、何故ならば、彼らもイエス様の栄光を見たからです。 This is the glory of Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration and on Mount Calvary. これは、変貌の山の栄光も、ゴルゴダの山の栄光もです。 We are given courage because we see that life has meaning and hope. 私達が勇気を受けるのは、私達が人生には意味があり、希望もあると分かるからです。 The meaning of our life is to live in the love of God. 私達の人生の意味とは、神様の愛の内に生きる事です。 The hope of our life is that the love we share with other people will bring them the love of God. 私達の人生の希望とは、私達の愛によって、他の人が神様の愛を得る事です。 This is a love that will be eternal. これは、永遠の愛です。 We may not get to go to heaven in a fiery chariot like Elijah did, but we will hear the trumpet of the Lord and then we too shall see Christ in his glory.私達はエリヤのように火の馬車によって天国に行かないでしょうが、最後の日の主のラッパを聞いて、その時、私達もキリストの栄光を見る事が出来ます。
The three disciples woke up and saw the Lord’s transfiguration and glory and also saw his visitors. ３人の弟子達は目を覚まして、主の栄光とその変容、その姿が変わるのを見ました。又、その旧約聖書の預言者をも見ました。 It was such a wonderful thing that they wanted them to stay longer. 素晴らしくて、長くその所にいたいと思いました。 Peter suggested making shelters for them. ペテロは「仮小屋」を３つ建てるように提案しました。 The Greek word here (skenos) can be a hut, a shelter, or a tent. この個所に使ったギリシャ語の言葉（スケーノス）は、仮小屋やテントの事です。 It is used in the Old Testament for the Tabernacle Tent in the wilderness. 旧約聖書の中には、荒れ野でモーセが造った神殿のような幕やです。 I think that Peter sees here that Jesus is really from Heaven. ペトロは、イエス様が本当に天国から来られた方であると分かったでしょう。 He realized that this mountain top is a holy place. その山の頂は聖なる場所であると感じました。 And so Peter wants to make tabernacles, shrines for these three men. それで３つの幕や、３つの神殿をこの３人の為に建てたいと思いました。 But Jesus and the three disciples must come down from the mountain. しかし、イエス様とその３人の弟子達は山を降りなければなりません。 Jesus will have his tabernacle: イエス様の為に神殿が備えられていました： it will be a cross, it will be tomb, and it will be in the hearts of all who believe in him. 即ち、十字架です、お墓です、又すべての信者達の心の中です。 Jesus is in our hearts. イエス様は私達の心の中にいます。 In faith we too have seen his glory. 信仰によって、私達もキリストの栄光を見ました。
