The Coming of Christ: Hosanna!
キリストの来臨：ホサナ！
December 2, 2007 First Sunday of Advent
Isaiah 2:1-5 Matthew 21:1-11
Isaiah 2:1
This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem: 2 In the last days the mountain of the LORD’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. 3 Many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 4 He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. 5 Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the LORD.
イザヤ２:１−５
2:1 アモツの子イザヤが、ユダとエルサレムについて幻に見たこと。2:2 終わりの日に／主の神殿の山は、山々の頭として堅く立ち／どの峰よりも高くそびえる。国々はこぞって大河のようにそこに向かい2:3 多くの民が来て言う。「主の山に登り、ヤコブの神の家に行こう。主はわたしたちに道を示される。わたしたちはその道を歩もう」と。主の教えはシオンから／御言葉はエルサレムから出る。2:4 主は国々の争いを裁き、多くの民を戒められる。彼らは剣を打ち直して鋤とし／槍を打ち直して鎌とする。国は国に向かって剣を上げず／もはや戦うことを学ばない。2:5 ヤコブの家よ、主の光の中を歩もう。
Jesus rode into Jerusalem, seated on a donkey. ろばに乗って、イエス様はエルサレムに入城しました。 He was coming as the King, bringing peace and hope, not war and terror. 王様として来られましたが、戦争と恐れを持って来られたのでなく、平和と希望を持って来られました。 Jerusalem was built on a hill, like a castle city. エルサレムは、お城の町のように、岡の上に建てられた町でした。 It was a place of safety in time of war. 戦争の時、安全な場所です。And in times of peace it was a place of worship and praise. 平和の時、礼拝と賛美の所でした。 Today’s Old Testament Lesson from Isaiah Chapter Two foretells a time of peace in Jerusalem. 今日の旧約聖書の日課、イザヤ２章は、エルサレムの平和な時代を予言します。 There is peace because the Lord God has made peace. 平和であるのは、主なる神様がその平和を造って下さったからです。 The Lord God will judge between nations and settle disputes without war; 主なる神様は国々の間の争いを裁きます。rather than going to war, nations will go to the Lord in Jerusalem to hear his law and to hear his word. 戦争を戦わないで、国々の人はエルサレムの主なる神様の所に行って、神様の御言葉を聞いてそれに従います。 It is the Word of the Lord that will make peace. 平和を造るのは、主なる神様の御言葉です。
Isaiah is written both to us and to the people of his time. イザヤ書は、私達の為にも、その当時の時代の人々の為にも書かれた物です。 The nation of Israel was sinful; people had turned their backs on the Lord God (1:4). イスラエルの国の人々は罪深く、聖なる神を侮(あなど)り、神様に背を向けたのです(1:4)。 People knew about war and the preparations for war. 人々は戦争と戦争の準備についてよく分かりました。Pruning hooks and plowshares had been beaten into swords and spears. 鋤sukiを打ち直して剣tsurugiとし／鎌kamaを打ち直して槍yariとすることです。 Agricultural tools for feeding people and sustaining life had been made into weapons to kill life. 人を食べさせ、命をささえる道具が、人を殺す武器にすることです。 Peaceful things had been made into things of war. 平和な道具が戦争の道具になります。 In other ages, church bells have been melted down to make cannon. 別の時代でしたら、教会の鐘を溶toかして、大砲taihouを作ります。 In our age, agricultural fertilizer can be used to make bombs. 私達の時代でしたら、農業用の肥料を使って、爆弾を作ります。 The good gifts of God are changed into means of evil. 神様から与えられた良い物が、悪用されます。
Then Jesus comes riding into Jerusalem. そして、イエス様はエルサレムに入城します。 He has come to show the way to fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah. イエス様はイザヤの予言を成就する方法を教えます。 Through Jesus Christ the Word of the Lord will be the way to settle the problems of the world. イエス･キリストによって、主なる神様の御言葉はこの世の問題を解決kaiketsuする方法になります。 The Word of the Bible will reveal and judge the hatred and evil of this world. 聖書の御言葉は、この世の憎しみと悪を裁きます。 But the Word of forgiveness through Jesus Christ will be the way to bring peace and love into the world. しかし、イエス･キリストによる赦しの御言葉は、この世に平和と愛をもたらす方法になります。
And so Jesus comes riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. それで、ろばに乗って、イエス様はエルサレムに入城しました。 It is at Jerusalem that Jesus will die and rise again. エルサレムでイエス様は死んで甦ります。 It is from Jerusalem that the eternal Gospel of peace will be proclaimed by the apostles. エルサレムからその永遠の平和の福音が使徒達によって述べ伝えられます。 Isaiah said that Jerusalem will become the “highest mountain.” イザヤは、エルサレムが一番高い山になると言いました。 And so it is, not because of its altitude, but because of its importance. そのようになりますが、山のてっぺんの高さの為ではなくて、町の大切さのためです。 It is because it is from Jerusalem that peace and love and forgiveness through Jesus Christ goes out into the world. 即ち、このエルサレムから、イエス様の与えられた平和と愛と赦しが出てこの世に出て行くからです。
This is the promise of paradise. これはパラダイスの約束です。 It is also the way of life now for Christians. 同時に、キリスト信者達の今の人生の生き方になります。We work for peace, for world peace and peace within our families ? and even peace within our hearts. キリスト者たちは平和を造る為に働きます、それは、世界平和も、家族の中の平和も、私達の心の中の平和の為にもです。 Isaiah shows us the way to do that. イザヤは、その方法を教えます。 Jesus made it possible. イエス様はそれを可能にしました。 And Jesus gives us hope that the day will come when the words of Isaiah will be the fulfilled. そして、いつか、イザヤの言葉が満たせる日が来ると言う希望がイエス様によって与えられています。
The cannons will be melted down to make church bells. 大砲を溶かして教会の鐘を造ります。 War chemicals will be used to feed the world and heal the sick. 戦争の化学物を利用して、世の人々を食べさせ、病気の人々を治します。 And people will say to each other, “Come, let us walk in the light of the Lord.” そして、人々はお互いにこのように言うでしょう、「主の光の中を歩もう。」と。
This is what Advent is all about. これはアドベント待降節の意味です。 It is to show us a new way to live. 新しい生き方を教えます。 It is to show us that the Baby of Bethlehem will be a great king. ベツレヘムで生まれる赤ちゃんは偉大なる王様になると教えます。 Not so great in worldly power and riches and glory, but great in bringing what the world really, really needs. この世の力と富と栄光があまりないですが、この世が本当に、本当に必要とするものを持ってきます。 The world needs the Word of the Lord to be taught how to have hope and peace and love. この世が必要とするのは、主なる神様の御言葉を理解して、希望と平和と愛を持つ事です。 In Jesus Christ we find this. イエス･キリストの中で私達がそれを見つけます。 And so we join the Palm Sunday Chorus. それで、私達はしゅろの日曜日のコーラスに私達の声を加えます。 “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” 「ダビデの子にホサナ。主の名によって来られる方に、祝福があるように。いと高きところにホサナ。」
