On Easter morning our joy is about many things. 復活祭の朝、私達は多くのものの為に喜びます。 We are happy that Jesus rose from the dead. イエス様が死者の中から復活したので喜びます。 We are happy that we can come to church and sing the beautiful Easter songs. 教会に行って、綺麗なイースターの賛美を歌う事が出来るので喜びます。 We are even happy that Easter Bunny brought us eggs and candy. 自分の所にイースターのウサギが卵とキャンディを持って来たので喜びます。 But we are happiest that just as Jesus rose from the grave, we too shall rise and live eternally with Jesus in heaven. そして、一番喜ばしい事とは、イエス様がお墓から甦ったのと同じように、私達も甦って天国で永遠にイエス様と共に生きる事です。

On the first Easter, the Women did not start the day with joy, but rather with sadness. 最初のイースター日、その女の人達は喜びではなくて、むしろ悲しみでその一日を始めました。 Their good friend and teacher, Jesus, had died. 彼女たちの良い友達また先生であるイエス様が亡くなりました。 They were not looking for Easter eggs; they were looking for the tomb of Jesus. 彼女たちはイースター卵を探さないで、イエス様のお墓を探しました。 They were going to finish the funeral service by anointing the body of Jesus with spices. それはお葬式の続きで、イエス様の体に香料の油を塗りに行きました。 When they saw the stone rolled away and the empty tomb, on top of their sadness there was fear and confusion. 横に転がした石を見て、空っぽのお墓を見ると、彼らの悲しみの上に恐れと混乱が重なりました。 But when they heard the angel’s message, they became happy, and their joy was made full when they met the risen Lord Jesus. しかし、天使のメッセージを聞くと、嬉しくなりました。そして、復活した主イエス様と出会うと、さらに喜びがみち溢れました。

The joy of the women was different than ours. 彼女たちの喜びは私たちのとは違います。 Our joy is joy for ourselves. 私たちの喜びは私たちのためです。 We are happy that we shall live forever.私たちは永遠に生きることが出来るので幸せです。 We are happy that Jesus died on the cross to forgive our sin and rose on the third day to reconcile us to God the Father. 私たちはイエス様が私たちの罪を赦す為に十字架で死に、三日目に甦られ、私たちを天の父である神様と和解させるために死んでくださったので、喜びます。 We are happy, and rightly so. 私達は喜びます、そしてそれがふさわしいです。 But the women on that first Easter had a different joy. 最初のイースターの朝の彼女たちの喜びは私たちのとは違います。 Their joy was not for themselves, but for Jesus. 彼らの喜びは自分たちのためではなく、イエス様のためでした。 Jesus was their friend, their teacher, a person they loved. イエス様は彼らの友達、先生、彼らが愛した方です。 When he died so tragically, they were deeply saddened. あのような悲惨（ひさん）な死に方をされたとき、彼らの悲しみは非常に深いものでした。 But when Jesus arose from the dead, they were filled with joy. しかしイエス様が死から甦られたとき、彼らは喜びで満たされました。 It is the joy we feel when someone who is very sick recovers. それは私たちの家族が非常に重い病気から直り、元気になったときのようです。 It is the joy we feel when someone we love is in a terrible accident and almost dies, but then recovers. だれかがひどい事故にあい、死ぬかもしれないという怪我（けが）から、回復したときのようです。 It is the joy we feel when a loved one is lost and feared dead, but then is found. 私たちの大事な人や子どもがになり、死んだかもしれないと恐れていたとき、見つかった時のようです。 The Women were happy for Jesus. 彼らはイエス様のために喜びました。 They loved Jesus and so were overjoyed that he was alive. 彼らはイエス様を愛していたので、またイエス様が生きておられたので大喜びしたのです。

On this Easter, let us rejoice that our friend Jesus is alive and not dead anymore. このイースターに、私達たちの友であるイエス様が死んでいるのではなく、生きておられるのを喜びましょう。 This is the joy of love. これは、愛の喜びです。 This would be enough reason to rejoice. 喜ぶためにはこれで十分です。 But there is a bonus too. でもボーナスがあります。 That bonus is that just as Jesus rose from the grave, we shall too. そのボーナスは、イエス様がお墓から甦られたように、私たちも甦ることです。 Our hope for eternal life is made sure in Jesus Christ. 永遠の命への私たちの希望は、イエスキリストによって確かなものとされました。 We are even more sure of all of the promises of God. 私たちは、神様の約束のすべてが更に確かなものになったを確信します。 That hope and certainty is the source of our Easter joy. この希望と確信は私たちのイースターの喜びの源です。

How do we express this joy? この喜びをどのように表しましょうか。 We sing. 歌います。 We give gifts of eggs and candy. イースター卵とキャンディのギフトをあげます。 We wear spring clothes. 春のドレスを着ます。 We eat a feast. ご馳走を食べます。 We pray and worship. 祈って礼拝します。 We confess our faith. 私たちの信仰を告白します。 Today there is the baptism for Ami and Kaito Taira. 今日平良愛美（あみ）さんと快大（かいと）君のバプテスマがあります。 Baptism is the power of Easter. バプテスマはイースターの力です。 Even if we use only a small amount of water, the symbol is that of washing away our sins and of drowning. たとえほんの少しの水を使ったとしても、罪を洗い去ることのシンボルと溺（おぼ）れることはします。 We drown to sin, but are resurrected in the new life of Jesus. 私たちは罪に溺れますが、しかしイエス様の新しい命に甦ります。 Baptism is an Easter event. バプテスマはイースターの出来事です。
