On the first Easter morning, there was a violent earthquake. 最初のイースターの朝、非常に大きな地震がありました。The Angel of the Lord came down from heaven and going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 主の天使が天から下ってきて、そのお墓に行き、あの大きな石をわきに転がし、その上に座っていました。 Then the angel said to the women, "He is not here; he has risen!" その天使はその女の人に｢あの方はここにはおられない。復活なさったのだ。｣ と言いました。And then Jesus himself appeared to the women. それからイエスさまがその女の人に現れました。In faith, we too have seen the empty tomb, have heard the Angel's message, and have met the Risen Lord. 信仰において、私たちもその空っぽのお墓を見、天使のメッセージを聞き、また復活された主にお会いしました。

In faith, our lives are connected with Jesus Christ. 信仰において、私たちの人生もキリストと結ばれています。 That is because Jesus Christ first connected his life to ours. なぜならイエスキリストガご自分の命を私たちの命に結ばれたからです。 In Bethlehem he was born a human baby, he experienced human joy and suffering, he experienced human death, and then he arose from the dead. ベツレヘムで彼は人間の赤ちゃんとして生まれ、人間の喜びや苦しみを経験され、そして死から復活されました。 And so, when in faith we join with Christ, we join with his birth, his joy and suffering, his death and resurrection. それで、私たちが信仰においてキリストと結ばれると、私たちは彼の誕生、彼の喜びと苦しみ、彼の死と復活にも結ばれています。That is why Easter is such a joy for us. Wですからイースターは私たちにとって、大きな喜びです。e know that just as Jesus died and rose again, we shall too.　イエス様が死なれ、復活されたように、私たちも復活すると知っています。

One of my favorite details of the Resurrection story is about the action of the Angel. 復活物語の中で、私の一番好きなのは、天使の行動についてのお話です。We read that after rolling back the stone, the Angel sat on it. 石が転がされた後で、その天使がその石の上に座ったのを読みます。天使Was the Angel tired after moving the heavy rock? はあの大きな石を動かした後で疲れてしまったのでしょうか。I hardly think so. 私は全くそうではないと思います。I think the reason for sitting on the stone is probably so that the guards could not roll it back in front of the tomb. 天使がその石の上に座っていた理由とは、番兵がその石をまた転がしてお墓に戻しておくことが出きないようにするためだと思います。The presence there of that mighty Angel was so fearsome that the guards fainted from fear. 力の強い天使が現れたことで、番兵達は恐怖でおびえ、気絶してしまったのです。The tomb door had to remain open so that when Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to the tomb, they could look in and see that it was empty. お墓のドアは開かれたままにされていなければなりません。それはマグダラのマリヤとそのほかのマリヤ達が、お墓にきたとき、お墓の中を見て、空っぽなのをみることができるためです。And then the Holy Messenger could announce the Easter Gospel, "He is not here; he has risen!"　それで聖なるメッセンジャーがイースターの福音を宣言｢する為です。「あの方はここにはおられない。復活なさったのだ」と。

The tomb must remain open so that we too can look inside and see that the grave is empty. そのお墓は開かれたままでいなければなりません。 それは私たちも中を見、お墓が空っぽであるのを見なければなりません。We look in and see that our graves too will be empty on the final Day of Resurrection. 私たちも最後の復活の日に、私たちのお墓も空っぽなのをみるでしょう。The tomb door must remain open because in our lives we often live as if it were closed. お墓のドアは開けられたままで なければなりませせん。 We forget about the life we have with Christ. なぜなら私たちの人生の中でそれが閉じているかのように生活をしてしまうからです･ 私たちはキリストと生きることを忘れてしまいます。 Or we go around opening the doors of other tombs that offer satisfaction for this life. またはこの人生に満足を与えてくれる他のお墓を開けてまわるかもしれません。 As St. Paul said in Colossians, the problem is that we "set our minds on earthly things" (3:2). 聖ペテロがコロサイ人の手紙で、問題とは、私達が「地上のものに心を引かれる」といっているようにです。 We know that we live much of the time as if there were no God. 私たちは神様が存在しないかのように私達の人生をを過ごしています。With the rest of the people of the world we scramble through life. 世の人たちと同じように、慌てて(あわ)人生を生きてしまいます。We are driven by earthbound goals and needs. 私たちは地上の目標や必用に追い掛け回されています。The things of this world are the same as tombs.　しかしこの世のものは、お墓のようです。

When we take a close look at ourselves -- when we examine how we live with others, how we use our time and money, and how we get motivated from day to day -- we might be troubled with just how little indication there is that we have been raised with Christ. 私たちが自分達をよく見る時、私たちがどのように他の人たちと生きているかを調べて見る時、どのように自分の時間やお金を使うかを見る時、日々の生活がどんなことが動機(どうき)で動かされているかを見る時、私たちがキリストと共によみがえらされていると言うことが、全然私たちの人生にほんの少ししか影響を与えていないことを見る時、自分がクリスチャンかどうか心配します。 What is important in our lives? 私たちの人生で何が重要(じゅうよう)でしょうか。What is the stuff we do, the stuff we rely on, the stuff we live and die for? 何かをする時、何に依存(いぞん)して、行動(こうどう)し、生き死ぬでしようか。Is it secure, permanent, and liberating? それは安全で、確かで、自由にするでしょうか。Or is it just a tomb the door of which will never be rolled open? または決して開くことのないお墓のドアのようでしょうか。

If we are not raised with Christ, we have no future. もし私たちがキリストと共に復活していなければ、私たちには未来はありません。If we are not connected with Christ, then we are not connected with God. もし私たちがキリストと結ばれていなければ、私たちは神様と結ばれていません。If our life is only connected with earthly things, then when this earth is destroyed, so will we. もし私たちの生活がこの地上のものとのみ結ばれているなら、この地上が滅びるとき、私たちも滅びます。 If our sin is not forgiven by Christ's death on the cross, then we have the very opposite of Easter joy. キリストの十字架上の死によって私たちの罪が赦されていなければ、私たちはイースターの喜びの反対のもの、地獄を経験するでしょう。

The Easter Gospel is that the stone was rolled away from the tomb. イースターの福音はその石が墓から転がされていたことです。Through the eyes of the women we can look in and see that it is empty. その女の人の目をとうして、お墓の中を見、それが空っぽであるのを見る事が出来ます。 Through their witness we can hear the Angel's message, "He is not here; he has risen!" 彼らの証言によって、私たちは天使のメッセージを聞くことが出来ます。「あのかたはここにはおられない。復活なさったのだ。」The women met Jesus. あの女の人はキリストと会いました。We meet Jesus too. 私たちもキリストと会います。We meet him in the Word of Scripture, we meet him in the Water of Baptism, we meet him in the Lord's Supper. 私たちは神のみ言葉の中で、私たちはバプテスマの水を通して、そして主の聖餐を通して彼と会います。The reality is that Christ raises us to be where he is, to be as alive as he is. Christ comes to us. その現実は、キリストが生きておられる様に、キリストがおられる所に私たちを引き上げて下さいます。 Where Christ is there is life. 　キリストは私たちのところに来られます。 キリストのおられるところに命もあるのです。That is why we are alive in Jesus Christ! これが私たちがキリストと共に生きていると言うことです。

Being alive in Jesus Christ, we live like Jesus Christ. キリストと共に生きているということは、キリストのように生きることです。 Our hopes, our dreams, our goals, our pleasures, our security, and our happiness are all possible because the tomb is open. 私たちの希望、夢、目標、楽しみ、安全、そして私たちの幸せは、すべてあのお墓が開いていることから来ます。We no longer base our lives on earthly things, but on eternal things. 私たちはもはや、この地上的なものに基準(きじゅん)を置かないで、永遠のものに基準を置いて生きます。Our lives are based on the mercy and love of Christ. 私たちの生活はキリストの愛と憐れみの上にもとづいています。

Sometimes in our lives we come up to a wall that blocks our progress. 時には、私たちの歩みを阻む(はば)人生の壁に直面します。As Christians we pray that God will show us how to get over/under/around/or straight though it. キリスト者として、神様がどのようにその壁の乗り越えるのか、それは壁の上を、または下を、または廻って、または壁を貫通(かんつう)して乗り越えるのかを教えて下さるように祈ります。 On Easter, the Angel announced that the wall of death has a door which is open for us. イースターの朝、その天使は死の壁のドアがあけられていると宣言します。 This door leads us to eternal life. このドアは私たちを永遠の命へと導きます。 We live with Christ already right now. 私たちはキリストと共にもう既に生きています。And that opens up to our wonderful daily life with Christ. はキリストと共にある素晴らしい日々の生活へと導きます。 We are alive with Christ. これ私たちはキリストと共に生きています。

Hallelujah! Amen! ハレルヤ！ アーメン！
