Early on Sunday morning, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb where Jesus had been laid. 日曜日の朝早く、マグダラのマリアは、イエス様が寝かされたお墓に行きました。 She was expecting to find Jesus in the tomb. イエス様がそのお墓の中にいるだろうと思いました。 She was expecting to see death. 死んでいるのを見るだろうと思いました。 She had already lost hope and faith. 希望と信仰はもう既にありませんでした。 But when she got to the tomb, Jesus was not there! しかしお墓に着きますと、イエス様はいませんでした！ Something was wrong, this is not the way it was supposed to be, and the empty tomb made her afraid. そのはずはないので、その空っぽのお墓を恐れて怖がりました。 She was gripped with terror. 非常に恐れました。 She ran to the disciples and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have put him!” 弟子達の所に走って行って言いました、「主が墓から取り去られました。どこに置かれているのか、私達には分かりません。」と。 Her life was all confused now. 心は完全にかき乱されていました。 She could not find the dead body of her Lord. 主の死んだ体を見つけられませんでした。
For Mary, the empty tomb meant terror and despair and fear and hate and unbelief and hell and the judgment of God on sinners. マリアにとっては、その空っぽのお墓の意味とは、恐れを始め、失望と恐怖と憎みと不信仰と地獄と罪人に対する神様の裁きを意味します。 In panic she ran to tell the disciples. パニックの状態になって、弟子達に知らせに走って行きました
This morning we have read the Easter Gospel. 今朝はイースターの福音書を読みました。 As we read it, we were like Mary Magdalene and we went to the tomb where Jesus had been laid. 読みながら、私達はマグダラのマリアのように、私達もイエス様が寝かされたお墓に行きました。 Unlike Mary, we do not expect to find Jesus there; we do not expect to see death because we have hope and faith. マリアと違って、私達はそこでイエス様を見る事を期待しません、私達には希望と信仰があるので、死んだ者を見る事を考えません。 But just imagine if we were to arrive there and the rock was still in front of the entrance and when it was rolled back that the body of Jesus was still there wrapped in the linen clothes. しかし、ちょっと想像して下さい。もしそこに着きますと、そのお墓の入口の前に大きい石がまだありましたら、そして、横に転(ころ)がして、その麻布に巻かれていたイエス様の死んだ体がそこに、ありましたらどうでしょうか。 Then we would feel like Mary did at first that morning. そのイースターの朝のマリアの最初の気持ちと同じでしょう。 We would suddenly feel afraid. 即ち、突然恐れるでしょう。 Our hope in Jesus would be crushed. 私達のイエス様に置かれた希望が消えるでしょう。 We would be filled with terror and dread. 恐れと恐怖に覆(おお)われるでしょう。 We would feel the judgment of God and the threat of hell. 神様の裁きと地獄のおどしを感じるでしょう。
But this morning, like Mary, we do find the tomb empty. しかし、今朝マリアと同じように、私達は空っぽのお墓を見つけます。 But unlike Mary, we know the rest of the story. しかし、マリアと違って、私達はその話の続きを知ります。 We know that Jesus has risen from the dead. イエス様が甦られたと知ります。And so, in the empty tomb, we see life. それで、その空っぽのお墓の中に私達は命を見ます。 We find hope and amazement and courage and love and faith and the mercy of God toward forgiven sinners. 希望と驚きと勇気と愛と信仰と赦された罪人に対する神様の憐れみを見ます。
For Mary, the empty tomb was abnormal and caused terror. マリアにとっては、その空っぽのお墓は変な物で恐怖を引き起こしました。 For us, the empty tomb has become the expected thing and gives us comfort and assurance. しかし、私達の為には、その空っぽのお墓が当たり前の物のように成って、慰めと確信を与えます。 The empty tomb means that we too shall rise from the dead when Christ returns to raise us all from our tombs. お墓が空っぽであることの意味とは、キリストが再び戻る時、私達も復活する事です。 This is the Easter hope and joy! これはイースターの希望と喜びです！
