How big is God? 神様はどんなに大きいでしょうか？How small is God? 神様はどんなに小さいでしょうか？ The story of Christmas is that God Almighty was born as a human baby. クリスマスの物語とは、全能の神様は人間の赤ちゃんとしてお生まれになった事です。 The Creator of the universe, who can hold the earth in his hands, was held in the arms of his mother and laid in a manger. 宇宙の創造主、御自分の御手の中でこの地球を持つ事が出来るお方は、母マリアの腕の中に抱かれて、飼い葉おけの中に寝かされました。 In Christmas, that is the miracle, the mystery, the awesome wonder. これはクリスマスの奇跡であり、神秘であり、不思議な素晴らしさです。
How big is God? 神様はどんなに大きいでしょうか？ Sometimes we think that God is too big to be in our everyday lives. 私達の毎日の生活の中に入る為に大き過ぎると感じる時があります。 We feel that God created the world and set it in motion and then left it to run on its own. 神様はこの世を造りましたが、その後でこの世に手を触れないと感じます。 Or we feel that God is too big and too busy to take care of our little problems, or even too busy to take care of the relatively big problems of this world like war and climate and earthquakes and disease and violence.自分の小さい問題を助ける為に、神様は大きすぎて忙しいと思い、又、この世の大きな問題、戦争、天候、地震、病気、暴力などに対して何もして下さらないように感じます。 We feel that God is too big to care. 神様は大き過ぎるからと感じます。
The opposite problem is that we make God too small. 反対に私達は神様を小さくしすぎます。 We may feel that he has no power to take care of the problems of this world; and so neither can he take care of my personal problems. それで神様には、この世の問題を解決する力がないので、自分の個人の問題を解決する事が出来ないと感じます。
Or we minimize God and his authority. 神様と神様の権威をも小さくします。 We say that God is only concerned about whether or not we keep the Ten Commandments. 私達が十戒を守るかどうかが、私たちに対する神様の唯一の感心だと思います。 God is only about love and good feelings. 神様は愛と良い気持ちを持つことの為にだけだと思います。 We only need God when we need something done that we cannot do ourselves, like healing or guidance or for cursing someone we hate. 自分だけで出来ない事があれば、その時だけ神様が必要だと思います。例えば、癒しと導きの為に、又、自分の敵を呪う為です。 We only need God to take us to heaven when we die; but while we are living we want God to let us do what we want to do. 死ぬ時、天国に行く為に神様が必要ですが、地上に生きる時、自分の好きな事をするのを許してもらいたいと思います。When we treat God like that, we treat him like a pagan idol that we control. このように神様を利用しましたら、異教の偶像のように神様を支配したいと思います。
We make our plans, 私達は自分の計画をたてます。and when we think God is too big to fit into our plans or too small to fulfill our plans, then Christmas is just tinsel and decorations and discarded wrapping paper.そのプランの中に入る為に神様が大き過ぎる時、又、そのプランを果たす為に神様が小さ過ぎると思いましたら、その時クリスマスは、ただの飾りとサンタさんと捨てられたプレゼントの包装用紙のようです。
The Gospel Message of Christmas is that Jesus was born and laid in a manger. クリスマスの福音のお知らせとは、イエス様がお生まれになって、飼い葉おけの中に寝かされた事です。 In Jesus Christ, God became just the right size to fit into our plans, to fit into our lives. イエス・キリストによって、私達のプランの中に入る為に、神様はちょうど良いサイズに成りました。私達の人生に入る為にちょうど良い大きさに成りました。 He became just the right size to save us.私達を救う為にちょうど良いサイズに成りました。 He came as a baby so that we can learn to love him. 赤ちゃんに成ったのは、私達はイエス様を愛する事が出来る為です。 Later as an adult, he was just the right size to save us. 後で大人になって、私達を救う為にちょうど良い大きさでした。 He was just the right size to fit on and to die on the cross, and yet, as God, he was just the right size to take the sin of the world upon himself. 十字架に付ける為に、十字架上で死ぬためにちょうど良い大きさで、同時に、神様として、御自分の上に世の罪を取る為にちょうど良い大きさでした。
How big is the love and mercy of God? 神様の愛と憐れみはどんなに大きいでしょうか。 It is big enough that he made himself small for our sake. 私達の為に御自分を小さくするほどです。 His love is big enough to come into our small lives. 私達の小さい人生に入る為に大きい愛です。 His heart is big. 心が大きいです。 That is the message of the manger. それは飼い葉おけの知らせです。
Christ became small in order to make us big. 私達を大きくするためにキリストは御自分を小さくしました。 Our short lives on earth become eternal in heaven. この地上での私達の短い命は、天国で永遠のものに成ります。 Our shortsighted concern for only ourselves becomes big to see the concerns of others. 自分自身の事だけを見る近視は、他の人の事を見る事が出来るほど大きくなりました。 Our hearts become big and so we pray for big things. 私達の心が広くなりましたので、大きいもの為に祈ります。 We pray for peace. 平和の為に祈ります。 We pray for the evangelism of the world. 世界福音伝道の為に祈ります。 We pray that everyone in the world can have a truly, real merry Christmas. 世界中のすべての人に本当のまことのメリークリスマスあるようにと祈ります。That is why God Almighty became the Baby in the manger. それをする為に、全能の神様は飼い葉おけの中の赤ちゃんに成りました。
