Christmas Peace, the Gift of God
神様からの贈り物、クリスマスの平和
The Christmas Angels sang,
“Peace on earth and goodwill to men.” クリスマスの天使達が歌いました、「地には平和、御心に適う人にあれ。」 It is a beautiful blessing. 綺麗な祝福です。 At this time of year many people try to be kind and loving, and this song of the Angels is partially fulfilled. 毎年の今ごろ、多くの人々は親切な心で愛の業をしようと思うので、天使達の歌の一部が満たされています。 But for many people, peace and goodwill are not in their stocking or under the tree.しかし多くの人々の為には、平和と神様の御心が、自分のクリスマスのソックスの中に、クリスマスツリーの下にありません。
What is peace?
平和とは何でしょうか。 What sort of peace do people desire and pray for? 人々が欲しくて祈る平和はどの形のものでしょうか。 For different people, the peace they need in their lives is different. 人によって違います。 For people who live in a war zone or a place of violence, peace means there are no more killings. 例えば、戦争のなかにある国や暴力の所に住む人にとっては、平和とはもう殺し合う事がない事です。 For people who are persecuted and even killed for being Christian, peace means no more raids on their villages in the middle of the night. 迫害された人やキリスト信者であるので殺された人にとっては、平和とは夜中に自分の村に敵が来ない事です。 For people who are bullied, it means being felt alone. いじめられた人にとっては、平和とは一人でいる事です。 For poor people or for displaced people, it means food on the table and a place to live. 貧しい人にとっては、平和とは食卓の上の食べ物と住む所です。 For the lonely, it means friendship and love. 淋しい人にとっては、友情と愛情です。For the sick, peace is health and strength. 病気の人にとっては、癒しと力です。 Etc., etc., etc. など、等、等。
Can Christmas peace bring peace to all of these people?
クリスマスの平和は、このすべての人々に平和をもたらす事が出来るでしょうか。 Can our Christmas Eve worship and this sermon bring peace into your hearts and lives, and into the hearts and lives of those you love? 私達のクリスマス･イブの礼拝とこの説教はあなたの心と人生に、あなたの愛された人の心と人生に、平和をもたらす事が出来るでしょうか。 That is our hope, それは私達の希望であり、that is our faith, 私達の信仰であり、and that is the promise of God. 神様の約束です。 It is the declaration of God delivered by the Angels to the Shepherds and recorded in the Gospel for us. 又、神様はそれを宣言しました。天使はそれを羊飼いたちに告げまして、そして、私達の為に福音書に記録されました。 If God declares it, then he must bring it about. もし神様がそれを宣言すれば、神様はそれを実現するでしょう。
But this world is not a Garden of Eden.
しかし、この世はエデンの園ではありません。Is peace just a hope for heaven, or is there hope for peace on earth? 平和は、ただの天国の希望でしょうか、それとも、地上の平和に希望があるでしょうか。 How can a little baby born in a stable bring peace to this earth? どのようにして馬小屋に生まれた小さい赤ちゃんが、この世に平和を実現するでしょうか。 How can Jesus crucified on the cross bring peace to this world? どのように十字架上で殺されるイエス様がこの世に平和を実現するでしょうか。 To find that peace, we must first realize that peace is a gift from God. その平和を見つける為に、先ず、平和は神様からの贈り物である事を、理解しなければなりません。 Peace is the work of God; it is an act of God. 平和は神様の働きです。神様の業です。 We people sometimes try to make peace, but we are the ones who break the peace into pieces in the first place, so true peace cannot be made by people. 我々の人間が平和を作ろうと思う時がありますが、実は平和をばらばらに壊すのは、私達人間であるので、本当の平和を人によって作る事が出来ません。 It must be done by God. 神様がそれをしなければなりません。 And God brings peace in a very wonderful way.そして、素晴らしい方法で神様はそれをなさいます。
People try to make peace through negotiation and legislation and diplomacy and counseling, and sometimes through constraint and even violence.
人々は平和を作る為に、交渉（こうしょう）をしたり、カウンセリングをしたりして、又束縛（そくばく）と暴力を使う場合があります。 God does not negotiate peace, he declares it. しかし神様は平和を交渉（こうしょう）しないで、平和を宣言します。 And he brings peace by the most peaceful way of all. そして、一番平和的な方法でその平和をもたらします。 First, Jesus is born a helpless Baby. 先ず、イエス様は力の無い赤ちゃんとして産まれました。 Later, like a gentle lamb led to the sacrifice, he is crucified by violent men, but on the third day, all the violence and hate is overcome in his resurrection from the dead. 後で、犠牲になる柔和な羊のように、暴力的な人によって、十字架につけられて殺されましたが、３日目の復活によって、その暴力と憎しみを征服しました。 Sin is forgiven. 罪が赦されました。 We are saved from our sin; we are saved from the consequences of our sin. 私達が自分の罪から救われています。罪の結果から救われています。
And so at Christmas it is God who brings peace on earth.
ですからクリスマスの時、地に平和をもたらすのは神様です。 He has declared goodwill to men. 人々に御心を表しました。 And we see that declaration fulfilled in the love and joy of many people this time of year. 今の時期、神様の平和の宣言が、多くの人々の愛と喜びの中に成就されています。 It starts with our prayers and songs. 私達の祈りと歌から始まります。 It continues with our contributions for the poor or for those suffering from natural disasters like typhoons and tornadoes because God has first helped us.神様が先ず私達を助けて下さったので、私達は貧しい人や台風のような天災に苦しむ人を、献金によって助けます。 Because God has forgiven us, our hearts are softened and we forgive others. 神様は私達の罪を赦して下さいましたので、私達の心がソフトになったので、他の人を赦す事が出来ます。 Because God has not utterly condemned us, we have hope and patience with fellow sinners and troublemakers. 神様が私達を地獄の滅びにおとさなかったので、私達は他の罪人や問題を起こす人に対して、希望と忍耐を持ちます。
God is working now to bring peace and goodwill to this sinful world of strife and disease.
この争いと病気のある世の為に、神様は平和を実現する為に働いています。 Maybe it takes faith to see God working in this world. この世の中に神様の働きを見る為に信仰が必要です。 But it only takes common sense to know that peace is impossible without God. しかし、神様の業がなければ平和が不可能である事を、常識（じょうしき）から分かります。 Only God can end all the troubles of this world and bring true peace. この世の問題を解決して、誠の平和を作るのは神様だけです。 And so, Christ was born on this earth. ですからキリストがこの地上に生まれました。 In Christ God comes to us and is with us, Immanuel. キリストによって、神様は私達と共にいます、インマヌエル。 Christ lived and died and rose again to bring forgiveness and relief and hope to us. 私達に赦しと安心と希望を与える為に、キリストは生きて死んで復活しました。 And so Christmas is a promise and sign of God’s love and peace.それで、クリスマスは神様の愛と平和の約束としるしです。
Amen.
アーメン。
May the Peace and Love of Christmas be in your hearts and minds now and forever. Amen.
クリスマスの平和と愛が、今も永遠にも、あなたの心と思いにありますように。アーメン。
