The Fourth Word of Jesus on the cross was “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” 十字架上のイエス様の第４の言葉は「わが神、わが神、なぜ私をお見捨てになったのですか」です。 We usually hear these words like this: “Oh, my God! Oh, God!” この英語の表現を聞いた事があると思います。“Oh, my God! Oh, God!” 「オ、マイ ガド！オ、ガド！」 Often these words are spoken at a time of shock or horror or dismay. この言葉を言うのは、ショックを受けた時、恐ろしい時、非常時に何をすればいいか分からない時です。 “Oh, no! What has happened? What have I done? What am I going to do?” 「Oh, no! 大変だ！何が起こったか？僕が何をしたのか？何をしたらいいか？」 Actually the words are a prayer. “Oh, God! Help me! Amen.” 実は、この言葉は祈りです。「あっ、神様！助けて下さい！アーメン。」
Often times people use these words casually in such a way that they break the Second Commandment, “You shall not use the Name of the Lord your God in vain.” よくある事ですが、この言葉の意味を分からないで、第２の戒めを破る事もあります、「主なる神様の御名をみだりに使ってはいけません。」 “Oh, my God!” means the same “Oh, oh!” or some curse or other foul language. その時、“Oh, my God” は “Oh, no!”や呪いの言葉や汚い言葉のようになります。
But actually the words are a prayer when only God can help you out of a situation. しかし実は、この言葉は祈りです。即ち困った時に、神様しかあなたを助けられない時です。 And so it was with Jesus on the cross. イエス様が十字架上にいる時はそうです。 Jesus as God knew that God would help him. 神であるイエス様は、神様が彼を助けて下さると分かりました。 But Jesus as human would feel the pain and realize that there was no escape now. しかし人間であるイエス様は、同時に、その苦しみの中で、もう逃げる事が出来ないと分かりました。 Jesus cried out for all humans who have felt the same. 同じ事を感じたすべての人間の為に叫びました。“Oh, my God! What has happened? Why have you let things get out of hand? Why aren’t you helping me? Why have your forsaken me? I am about to die!” 「Oh, my God! どうなったか？神様、もう支配していないのですか。どうして私を助けて下さいませんか。なぜ私をお見捨てになったのですか。私は死にますよ！」
And when we see Jesus on the cross, we should say the same. 私達が十字架上のイエス様をみる時、同じ事を言うべきです。 “Oh, my God! What have I done? Look what my sin has done! It has nailed Jesus to the cross! An innocent man is taking the punishment I would have. He is going to die, and there is nothing I can do to help him now!” 「Oh, my God! 僕は何をしたでしょうか？私の罪の結果です。イエス様を十字架に付けてしまいました。無罪の人が僕の受けるべき罰を受けました。イエス様が死にますが、私はそれをふせぐ為に何も出来ません。」
But remember that these words are a prayer. しかし、この言葉が祈りであると忘れないで下さい。 “Oh, God. My God, the God who loves me and takes care of me. 「Oh, God, my God. わが神。私を愛して、私を守る神様です。 The God that I claim as mine, and the God that claims me as His. この神を自分の神として告白して、そして、この神が私を自分の者として言われます。 The God that made me his child in Baptism. 洗礼の時、この神は私を御自分の子供にしました。 The God that can take my sin and my problems upon himself on the cross. この神は、私の罪を取り除く事が出来、十字架上で私のすべての問題を背負う事が出来ます。 The God that can raise the dead. この神は死人を復活させられます。 The God that is almighty. この神は全能の方です。 This is my God. これはわが神です。 Amen. アーメン。 This is the God that never forsakes me. Amen.” この神はけっして私を見捨てません。アーメン。」
This is the prayer of Jesus. これはイエス様の祈りです。 The Last Word on the cross was “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” 十字架上の最後の言葉は｢父よ、私の霊を御手にゆだねます｣と。 He knew that God had not forsaken him. 神様が本当に自分を見捨てなかったと分かりました。 He knew that the work of salvation was now finished. 救いの働きがもう終わったと分かりました。That is the Sixth Word, “It is finished.” それは第６の言葉です「成し遂げられた」と。 The work of salvation is finished. 救いの働きが終わりました。 Our sins are forgiven. 私達の罪が赦されていました。 We are reconciled to God. 私達が神様と和解されました。 The promise of eternal life is made. 永遠の命の約束が出来ました。 The eternal covenant is ratified. 永遠の契約が結ばれました。
“Oh, my God!” 「オ、マイ ガド！オ、ガド！」 This is an expression of shock and horror and dismay. この言葉を言うのは、ショックを受けた時、恐ろしい時、非常時に何をすればいいか分からない時です。 We make it a prayer. 私達はこの言葉を祈りにします。 Then it becomes an expression of hope and trust and peace and thanksgiving. その時、希望と信頼と平和と感謝の表現になります。
“Oh, my God. Amen.” 「わが神。Oh, my God. アーメン。」
