2011年9月4日Matthew 18:12–20 [Restoration of the Wanderer.]
What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.
“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

18:12 あなたがたはどう思うか。ある人が羊を百匹持っていて、その一匹が迷い出たとすれば、九十九匹を山に残しておいて、迷い出た一匹を捜しに行かないだろうか。18:13 はっきり言っておくが、もし、それを見つけたら、迷わずにいた九十九匹より、その一匹のことを喜ぶだろう。18:14 そのように、これらの小さな者が一人でも滅びることは、あなたがたの天の父の御心ではない。」
18:15 「兄弟があなたに対して罪を犯したなら、行って二人だけのところで忠告しなさい。言うことを聞き入れたら、兄弟を得たことになる。18:16 聞き入れなければ、ほかに一人か二人、一緒に連れて行きなさい。すべてのことが、二人または三人の証人の口によって確定されるようになるためである。18:17 それでも聞き入れなければ、教会に申し出なさい。教会の言うことも聞き入れないなら、その人を異邦人か徴税人と同様に見なしなさい。18:18 はっきり言っておく。あなたがたが地上でつなぐことは、天上でもつながれ、あなたがたが地上で解くことは、天上でも解かれる。18:19 また、はっきり言っておくが、どんな願い事であれ、あなたがたのうち二人が地上で心を一つにして求めるなら、わたしの天の父はそれをかなえてくださる。18:20 二人または三人がわたしの名によって集まるところには、わたしもその中にいるのである。」
Jesus is the Good Shepherd. イエス様は良い羊飼いです。 He told us that the Son of Man had come to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10). 言われました、「人の子は、失われたものを捜して救うために来たのである」（ルカ19:10）。In today’s Gospel lesson, the Shepherd who leaves the 99 in a safe place and seeks the lost sheep is Jesus Christ. 今日の福音書には九十九匹の羊を山に残しておいて、迷い出た一匹を捜す羊飼いがいます。その羊飼いとは、イエス･キリストです。 God the Father in Heaven does not want a single sheep to be lost. 天の父なる神様は、さ迷っている、いかなる一匹の羊でさえも失われて欲しくありません。 He does not want a single human being to be lost. 失われて死ぬ一人の人間でさえも欲しくありません。 This is why he sent his Son Jesus to this world. ですから、この世に御子イエス様を遣わしになりました。 Jesus said, “Repent and believe in the Gospel.” イエス様はいわれました、「悔い改めて福音を信じなさい」と。 That means, quit wandering and come home to God. その意味とは、「さまよわないで、神様の家に帰りなさい」と。And God rejoices when even a single sheep comes home. そして、一匹の羊でも帰りますと、神様は喜びます。 In searching for the lost sheep, Jesus searches all over this world. さ迷っている羊を探して、イエス様は全世界を探します。 In the search, Jesus went to Mt. Calvary, where he was crucified. イエス様はゴルゴダの山まで行って、そこで十字架につけられました。 In his search Jesus went to hell, not to be punished, but to find the sheep he loved and bring them safely to heaven. この捜索（そうさく）に、イエス様は地獄まで行きました。それは苦しめる為ではなくて、御自分の愛する羊を見つける為に、安全に天国に帰らせる為でした。 Jesus comes to our hearts and says, “You have been found. Come home.” イエス様は私達の心にこられて、「あなたが見つけられていますよ。一緒に帰りましょう」と。
How many times has Jesus searched for you? イエス様はあなたを何回探したででしょうか。 How many times have you broken the Ten Commandments? あなたは十戒を何回破った事があるでしょうか。 Jesus does not give up. イエス様はあきらめません。 We often use the words “repentance, or confession, and forgiveness or absolution.” 「悔い改めと赦し」という言葉をよく使います。 “You have been found. You have been forgiven. Come home.” 即ち、「あなたが見つけられていますよ。赦されていますよ。帰りましょう。」と。 Peter once asked Jesus, “How many times do I have to search out and forgive my brother? Seven times?” And Jesus answered, “Not seven times, but seventy times seven.” (Mt.18:21-22) ペテロはある時、イエス様に聞きました。「主よ、兄弟がわたしに対して罪を犯したなら、何回赦すべきでしょうか。七回までですか。」 イエスは言われました。「あなたに言っておく。七回どころか七の七十倍までも赦しなさい。」（マタイ18:21-22)。 In other words, uncountable times, always forgive without end. 言い代えますと、数え切れないほど、絶えず赦し続ける事です。 That is the way God forgives us. それは、神様が私達を赦す方法です。 His mercy and love is endless. 神様の憐れみと愛は無限です。 PTL. 神に感謝します！
In today’s Gospel lesson, Jesus says, “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.” 今日の福音書でイエス様は言われます。18:15 「兄弟があなたに対して罪を犯したなら、行って二人だけのところで忠告しなさい。言うことを聞き入れたら、兄弟を得たことになる。」The brother is like a lost sheep. その兄弟は迷っている羊のようです。 He needs to be found. 探さなければなりません。 He needs to be forgiven. 赦さなければなりません。 He needs to come home. 帰らせなければなりません。 If you cannot find the brother, take a search party with you. その兄弟を見つけられなければ、ほかの人を連れて探せばいいです。 Perhaps he will listen to other people and mend his ways. もしかしたら、そのほかの人の言葉を聞き入れて自分の罪深い行いを直すかもしれません。If not, get a bigger search party, and then a bigger one. しなければ、今度、多くの人々を連れていって、彼を探しましょう。
Pray in Jesus’ Name that the brother will come home. イエス様の御名によって、兄弟が帰るように祈りましょう。Jesus said, “Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” イエス様は言われました、「18:19 また、はっきり言っておくが、どんな願い事であれ、あなたがたのうち二人が地上で心を一つにして求めるなら、わたしの天の父はそれをかなえてくださる。18:20 二人または三人がわたしの名によって集まるところには、わたしもその中にいるのである。」Jesus is in the search party, too!イエス様も私達の兄弟を探します。
There may be the time when the brother will not listen to the Word of God, will not recognize his fault, refuse forgiveness, or decide not to come home to God. ある時、兄弟が全然神様の御言葉を聞こうと思わないで、自分の過ちを認めないで、赦しを拒みますで、神様の所に帰らないように決めます。That is a sad day for the church, and a sad day for God. その日は、教会にとって淋しい日で、神様にとって悲しい日です。 Many churches have constitutions that include the words of Mt. 18 as a guide to expel members. 多くの教会の教会憲法には、マタイ18章の言葉で、会員を教会から追放（ついほう）する時の為にガイドラインがあります。Our Okinawa Lutheran Church’s church constitution, Chapter 4, Article 7, quotes Matthew 18 and says that we must make every attempt to bring the wandering sheep home before excommunicating them. 私達の沖縄ルーテル教会の憲法、第4章、第7条に書いてあります。そこに書いているのは、さ迷っている羊を破門する前に、帰るように力を尽くさなければならない事です。 It is to make excommunication difficult. 即ち、破門する事を難しくします。 Of course Matthew 18 is sometimes misused. 勿論、このマタイ18章が間違って利用されている時があります。 It is seen as a legal procedure to kick out of the church someone whom you do not like. 嫌いな人を教会から追い出すのに使う方法です。 It is like a heresy trial. 異端に対する裁判のようです。 Step 1, confront one-to-one. 先ず、一人でその人と話します。Step 2, take along two witnesses. 第2、二人の証人を連れて行きます。 Step 3, take it to the church council or district office. 第3、教会の役員会や地区運営委員会に問題を出します。 Step 4, kick the bum out, like you had decided to do in the first place. 第4、最初に計画したように、その人を教会や教団から追い出します。 Three strikes and you are out. ３ストライクでアウトです。
But that is not the way God operates. しかし、それは神様のやり方ではありません。God’s love and mercy and patience and forgiveness are infinite. 神様の愛と憐れみと忍耐と赦しは無限です。 He is the Good Shepherd. 神様は良い羊飼いです。 He searches for us, for you and for me. 私達を探して下さいます。 And when he finds us, God rejoices. 私達を見つけますと、神様は喜びます。 The church rejoices. 教会も喜びます。
