教会の中で、どこで座るのが好きですか？

September 2, 2007今日の福音書では、イエス様は、宴会の席を選ぶ事について話しました。「14:10 招待を受けたら、むしろ末席に行って座りなさい。そうすると、あなたを招いた人が来て、『さあ、もっと上席に進んでください』と言うだろう。そのときは、同席の人みんなの前で面目を施すことになる。11 だれでも高ぶる者は低くされ、へりくだる者は高められる。」
In today's Gospel lesson, Jesus talks about selecting seats at a party. Jesus gives this advice: "10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, 'Friend, move up to a better place.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all your fellow guests. 11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."宴会やパーティや友達と共にレストランで食べる時、人々がどこの席を選ぶかを見るのは面白いと思います。
I think it is interesting how people choose where to sit at a party or when you go out to eat with friends.誕生会や送別会のようなものでしたら、特別な人がいます。At a birthday party or farewell party, there is usually a guest of honor.その特別なひとが後ろに座ろうとしますと、皆さんは、「いいえ、そこではなくて、皆があなたを見える前の方に来て、床の間の前に座って下さい」と。It is fun when the guest of honor tries to sit in the back and everyone says, "Come up and sit here in the front where we can all see you."日本人もイエス様の忠告を知っているみたいで、自分の為に皆さんからの注目を自分に当てられるように、誉め言葉を聞きたいみたいです。It seems like many people know the advice of Jesus and use it so that they can get more attention and so more honor.日曜日の朝の教会礼拝は、食事かいのようです、特に、聖餐式がある時です。
You know, Sunday morning at church is like a dinner party, especially when there is the Lord's Supper. その時、一番良い席とは、私達のホストhostであるイエス様がおられる祭壇です。Then of course the place of honor is the Altar where Jesus is our Host.イエス様は、真正面の私たち皆が見える所にいます。Jesus is front and center where we can all see him.イエス様が話す時、私達は彼の言葉をはっきり聞きたいと思います。「これはあなたがたの為に与える私の体である。これは罪の赦しの為にあなた方と多くの人々の為に流す 私の血における新しい契約である。」と。 When Jesus speaks, we all want to hear his words clearly: "This is my body given for you for the forgiveness of sins."日曜日の朝の教会の食事会の宴会に来る時、あなたはどこに座るのが好きですか。
When we come to the Sunday morning Church Banquet, where do you like to sit?ある人は一番前の列が好き、ある人は一番後ろの方が好きです。Some people enjoy the front row, some enjoy the back row.後ろに座る人に、イエス様の言葉のように、『さあ、もっと上席に進んでください』と言ったら、多分その栄光を断るでしょう。If we were to say to the people in the back like Jesus did, "Come up and sit in the front," they would probably refuse "the honor." 私が子供の時、私の家族はいつも教会の後ろの列に座りました。その長い椅子にこう書いていた札（ふだ）がありました、「小さい子供のいる家族の為に予約されている」と。When I was a kid, we always sat in the back pews which were marked, "Reserved for Families with Small Children." 私達子供達が大きくなりますと、私の母にとってちょっと惜しかったのは、教会の前の方に移らなければならない事でした。When we kids got older, my mother was sad that she had to sit up closer to the front.しかし多くのお母さん達が言うのは、子供が大きくなって、静かに座る事が出来る時、説教などを聞く事が出来るので、嬉しい事ですと。 But many mothers have told me that they are happy when their kids can sit still through the service and so they can listen to the sermon, etc.私のおじいさんはいつも礼拝堂の二階の席に座りました。
My grandfather always sat up in the balcony. そこに座る人が少ないので、寂しそうと私は思いました。There were only a few people up there, rather lonely, I thought. 私は彼に聞きました、「どうして独りで二階に座りますか」と。 I asked him, "Why do you sit by yourself in the balcony?" 「わしが座る所は、スピーカに近いので、礼拝と説教を良く聞く事が出来るからです。」と答えました。 He said, "There is a loudspeaker very close to where I sit so I can hear the service and sermon better." 数年間、おじいさんは私達の家に住みました。いつも教会に行く事が出来ませんでした。教会学校の後に家に帰りますと、おじいさんは椅子に座って、耳の当たりにトランシスター・ラジオをあてて、ルーテル・アワーを聞いて、そして、最後に、自分の声を出して、ラジオの牧師と共に主の祈りを祈りました。 Years later when he lived at our house and couldn't always go to church, we would come home after Sunday School and he would be sitting in his chair, with his portable transistor radio near his ear listening to the Lutheran Hour and then he would pray the Lord's Prayer out loud together with Oswald Hoffman.あなたは教会に来る時、どこに座るのが好きですか。
Where do you like to sit in church? 私は東京のルーテル神学大学に通った時、毎日チャペルの礼拝に出席しました。好きな席が二つありました。 When I was attending daily chapel services at the Seminary in Tokyo, I had two places I liked. 礼拝堂の照明は暗いので、ランプの下に良く座りました。 It was a rather dark chapel, so I liked one place that was under a lamp. もう一つの所は、説教台の真ん前でした。 The other place was up front, right in front of the pulpit. その礼拝堂の音声が良くないで、声をはっきり聞く事が出来ませんでした。 The chapel had bad acoustics and voices got muffled. 日本語がまだ上手ではありませんでしたから、はっきり聞こえないと、すべては雑音のようにしか聞こえませんでした。 My Japanese is bad enough, so that if I cannot hear clearly, everything becomes like static. ですから、前の方に座りましたら、はっきりと聞こえました。So, if I sat up front I could hear very clearly. そして、イエス・キリストの福音を奇麗に、はっきりと語られていると解ったとき、礼拝は楽しいです。 And when I heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ clearly spoken, I really enjoyed the service. しかし、時々、説教者の言葉をはっきり聞けても、その日本語を良く理解できたときでも、福音を聞く事が出来なかった理由は、その説教者が福音を語らなかったからです。 Sometimes, however, I could hear the speaker’s words clearly and could understand the Japanese, but I still could not hear the Gospel because it was not spoken. そのときはがっかりして怒って来ました、自分が一生懸命聞きましたのに、時間が勿体無いと感じました。 It makes me angry when I try hard to hear a sermon that doesn't proclaim Christ, it is a waste of time, I feel. キリストについて話さない説教はクリスチャンではないと思います。 A sermon that doesn't speak of Christ is not Christian. それで、式文がとても良いとおもいます。式文には、福音が宣べ伝えられているからです。 That is why the liturgy is good, it cannot be messed up. ですから、私が説教する時、いつもキリストを説教の中に入れるように勤めています。たとえ無理に入れる時があっても、私達の罪を赦す十字架上で死んで下さったキリストの愛と恵みによる救いの力強いメッセージがあるからです。 That is why I always try to get Christ into my sermons, I might have to squeeze him in sometimes, but when I do, then there is the powerful message of Salvation by grace through the love of Christ who died on the cross to forgive our sins. 教会の中で私の好きな所とは、説教台の後ろに立って神様の御言葉を語る所です。My favorite place in church is standing behind the pulpit speaking the word of God.イエス様は言われました、「14:10 招待を受けたら、むしろ末席に行って座りなさい。そうすると、あなたを招いた人が来て、『さあ、もっと上席に進んでください』と言うだろう。そのときは、同席の人みんなの前で面目を施すことになる。11 だれでも高ぶる者は低くされ、へりくだる者は高められる。」
Jesus said, "10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, 'Friend, move up to a better place.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all your fellow guests. 11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." その上席とは、特別なお客さまのそばです。The place of honor is next to the guest of honor. イエス様は私達皆をご自分のそばに来るように招かれます。 Jesus calls us to come up to where he is. ご自分の食卓の所に招きます。 He calls us to come to his Table. 彼はその宴会の会長で、私達に聖餐を下さいます。 He is the Host and gives us the Holy Sacrament. 私達を愛して、私達に栄光を与えます、即ち、ご自分の友として、天の父の子供達として、ご自分の兄弟姉妹としての栄光です。 He loves us and bestows on us the honor of being his friends, of being his brothers and sisters, and of being children of the Heavenly Father.教会の中で一番好きな所とは、祭壇の所です。
My favorite place in church is at the altar. しかし、私達がどこにいましても、イエス様はいつも私達と共にいますので、どこにいても、幸せです。 But Jesus is always with us where ever we are, and so we can be happy where ever we are. キリストが私達と共にいてくださいますので、私達はいつもその栄光をいただきます。 We are always honored that Christ shares his presence with us!アーメン。
