Who is the Real Star? Matthew 2:1-12
本当のスターとは マタイ2:１−１２

We all know the story of the Three Wisemen, the Three Magi. 皆さんは３人の博士の話を知っているでしょう。３人のの学者たちです。 When Jesus was born, they saw a star and followed that star to where Jesus was. イエス様が生まれた時、彼らは一つの星を見て、イエス様がいる所までその星に従いました。 But the real “star” was not the shining object in the night sky, but rather, the real “star” of the show was the Baby Jesus. しかし本当のスターとは夜空の星よりも、赤ちゃんのイエス様でした。 The Wisemen brought gifts. 博士達は贈り物を持って来ました。 They opened their treasure chests and presented Jesus with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 「彼らはひれ伏して幼子を拝み、宝の箱を開けて、黄金、乳香、没薬を贈り物として献げた。」

Jesus was born in a small town in Israel. イエス様はイスラエルの国の小さな村に生まれました。 But the Wisemen worship him as the King of the whole world. しかし博士達は彼を全世界の王様として拝みました。 This is one of the most important points on this celebration of Epiphany. これは顕現主日の最も大切なポイントの一つです。 Jesus was born as Savior for not only the Jews, but for the entire world. イエス様はユダヤ人の救い主だけではなくて、全世界の救い主です。 First, there was the star in the sky, part of the whole universe. まず空の星がありました。それは広い宇宙の一部です。 Then the Wisemen who were not Jews came to worship Jesus.そしてユダヤ人ではない博士たちは、イエス様を拝みに来ました。 And so part of our worship today is to pray for the world-wide mission of the church, that Christ might be revealed to the world. ですから今日の礼拝の一部は、世界中の教会の宣教の働きの為に祈る事です。即ちキリストが世に掲示される為です。 The word “epiphany” means “revelation” or “manifestation.” 「顕現」と言う言葉の意味とは「啓示」や「表す」事です。 Christ is revealed to the world, and is also revealed to us in our hearts. キリストが世に掲示されて、私達の心にも掲示されています。 This is not through a new star in the sky, but through the word of the Bible and the word of those who proclaim Jesus Christ as their Savior.今度、新しい空の星によってではなくて、聖書の言葉や救い主としてイエス・キリストを述べ伝える人々の言葉によってです。

Let’s reveal our faith. 私達の信仰を表しましょう。 Let’s do that like the Wisemen, by offering our gifts to Christ, our gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 博士たちのようにしましょう。即ちキリストに、私達の贈り物を捧げる事によってです。私達の黄金、乳香と没薬によってです。

Our gold is our Sunday morning offerings. 私達の黄金とは、私達の日曜日の献金です。 The offerings are more than just helping to support the mission of the church. 献金は教会の宣教の働きを支えますが、同時にもう一つの事を意味します。 Offerings are an act of worship. 献金は礼拝の業です。 As you put in your offerings, you are putting in a part of yourself. バスケットに献金を入れる時、自分自身の一部をも入れるからです。 You are giving yourself to God. 自分を神様にささげます。 It is a symbol of your dedicating your life to Christ. 自分の人生を神様にささげるという献身のしるしです。 That is why it is part of the worship service, right after the confession of the Apostles Creed. ですから献金は礼拝の一部で、使徒信条の信仰告白のすぐ後です。

Frankincense is a symbol of our prayers. 乳香は私達の祈りのしるしです。In the Old Testament incense was burnt at prayer time. 旧約聖書の時代、祈りの時に香を炊きました。 As the sweet-smelling smoke ascended up into the sky, so our prayers ascend into heaven. そののがにると同じように、私達の祈りが天国に昇ります。 As Wisemen, as people who are wise, we offer our prayers to God. 博士のように、賢い人のように、私達も神様に祈りをささげます。 We pray for ourselves, for those we love, for the church, for our neighbors, for our enemies, and for all who need our prayers. 自分自身の為に祈り、愛する人の為に祈り、教会の為に祈り、隣人の為にも敵の為にも祈り、私達の祈りを必要とするすべての人の為に祈ります。 Prayer is a sign of love. 祈りは愛のしるしです。 If someone is praying for you, then you know they love you. もし誰かがあなたの為に祈れば、あなたはその人があなたを愛する事を知ります。 We return the love in prayer. 祈りによって私達はその愛を返します。

Then there is myrrh. そして没薬があります。 It was used like a medicine, to dull pain. 薬のように使われていました。痛みを安らかにする為でした。 It was like a narcotic or pain killer. や痛み止め（pain killer ）のようです。 It was offered to Jesus on the cross, but he refused it (Mk.15:23). 十字架上にいる時、兵隊は没薬をイエス様に飲ませようと思いましたが、イエス様は飲もうとしませんでした（マルコ15:23）。 So myrrh has the meaning of suffering. ですから没薬には、苦しみを受ける意味があります。 Jesus would suffer on the cross for our sin. イエス様は私達の罪の為に十字架上で苦しみを受けました。 The gift of the Wisemen is a type of prophecy. 博士達の贈り物は予言のようでした。 When we offer our myrrh to Christ, it is when we suffer because we love others. 私達が自分の没薬をキリストにささげる時とは、他の人を愛するから苦しむ時です。 It is when we help people who are suffering by giving sympathy and comfort and support. 又、苦しむ人を助ける時です。それで同情と慰めとをします。 It is when we are persecuted for being Christians. 又、自分がクリスチャンであるので迫害される時です。It is when being a Christian is not convenient. 不便な時にクリスチャンとして生きる時です。

Gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 黄金、乳香、没薬。 We can give our gifts to Christ because he has given gifts to us. 私達はこのギフトをキリストにあげる事が出来るのは、キリストがもう既に私達に贈り物を下さったからです。 He has given us all our riches. 私達に富を下さいました。 He prays to the Father in heaven for us. 天の父なる神様に私達の為に執り成しの祈りをして下さいます。 He suffered and died for us. 私達の為に苦しみを受けて死にました。 He is the star of the show. 彼こそはスターです。 So, when you look up in the night sky and see the stars, remember Christ who created them. ですから夜空の星を見る時、それを創造したキリストの事を考えて下さい。 In this way, the stars will lead us to Christ, too. このようにして私達も星によってキリストに導かれるでしょう。
