Today is our annual church assembly meeting.
今日は私達の教会の総会です。We will plan our church activities for 2008. ２００８年度の教会活動を計画します。 Sometimes it is nice to have a professional person help you when you are making plans. 計画を作る時、プロの助けがあれば、ありがたいです。 An experienced person can give good advice. 経験のある人のアドバイスが役に立ちます。 To give advice for our church, who would be good? 私達の教会にアドバイスをくれる人はどこにいるでしょうか。Well, let’s look at today’s Gospel lesson. では、今日の福音書を見ましょう。 There on the Mount of Transfiguration, Jesus was talking to Moses and Elijah. 変貌の山の上で、モーセとエリヤはイエス様と話しました。 What were they discussing? 何について話したでしょうか。 They were talking about the work that Jesus was about to do for our salvation, they were talking about his suffering and death. (cf. the Gospel of Luke) 私達の救いのために、イエス様がなさることについて話しました。即ち、イエス様の苦しみと死について話しました。（ルカ伝はその事を教えます。） I do not think they told Jesus, the Son of God how to do his work, but they could give Jesus, the Son of Man strength and encouragement for the suffering he was humanly about to endure. イエス様は神様の子であるので、どのようにその働きをすれば良いか、彼らはイエス様に何も教える事が出来なかったでしょう。しかし、イエス様は、同時に、人間の子であるので、人間的な苦しみを受けます。それで彼らは、イエス様に「がんばれ」と言って、力を与える事が出来ました。Maybe Moses and Elijah could give us some advice for our church work.
モーセとエリヤは、私達の教会の働きのために、アドバイスを与えるでしょうか。 Give us some strength and encouragement. 力を与えるでしょうか。 What advice would they give to us? どの忠告を言うでしょうか。Moses might say something like this.
もしかしたら、モーセは、このように話すでしょう。 “Pastor Mike. 「マイケル先生。 Don’t get upset or angry or discouraged about your church or congregation. あなたの教会や会員に対して、がっかりしないで、腹を立てないで下さい。 Look at my congregation! 私の人々を見てください。 For forty years they grumbled and complained. ４０年間も、いつも不満を言うばかりです。They even wanted to back to Egypt. 彼らはエジプトに帰りたいと思った時もありました。 Your job is to lead your congregation to the Promised Land. あなたの仕事は、彼らを約束の地に導く事です。 They need the Ten Commandments, but they also need the Gospel of Jesus Christ, who forgives sins. 十戒が必要ですが、罪を赦すイエス・キリストの福音も必要です。 They need the guidance of the Holy Spirit on their life journey. 人生の旅のために、聖霊の導きが必要です。 They need to know the promise of salvation. 救いの約束を教えなさい。 And all you people of God, そして、神様の民の皆さん、remember that God gave us manna and fresh drinking water. これをおぼえておいて下さい。神様は私達にマナを食べさせ、おいしい水を下さいました。 He gave us protection from our enemies. 又、私達を敵から守って下さいました。 And he will do the same for you, too. 同じ事をあなたの為にして下さいます。 You do not know the road map when wandering in the wilderness, but you know the destination. 荒れ野をさ迷っている時、道が分からないでしょう。しかし、目的地が分かります。 That is God’s covenant.” それは神様のご契約です。」Elijah might say something like this.
もしかしたら、エリヤは、このように話すでしょう。 “Pastor Mike. 「マイケル先生。 You think you have it hard!? 自分が苦労していると思うのですか。 The wicked queen Jezebel tried to kill me and all the true prophets of the Lord God, その悪の女王、イゼベルが私と主なる神様のすべての預言者を殺そうと思いました。but I escaped to Mt. Sinai, and there God spoke in a soft, clear voice to give me hope and a mission. 私は逃げてしまいました。そして、シナイ山の所で、神様は、小さなきれいな声で私達に話しました。希望とミッションを下さいました。 There were still many in Israel who believed in God. イスラエルの国の中で、神様を信じる人がまだ沢山残っていると教えました。 So when you are discouraged you might think that no one in Okinawa wants to believe in God and come to church, but the Holy Spirit wants to save all. ですから、がっかりしている時には、誰も神様を信じて、教会に行く人がいないでしょうと思う時があっても、聖霊はすべての人々を救いたいと思っています。 Your mission is to preach and teach the Word of God. あなたの働きとは、神様の御言葉を述べ伝え、教える事です。 And all you people of God, そして、神様の民の皆さん、remember that God loves you. これをおぼえておいて下さい。神様はあなた方を愛しているという事です。 You may not go to Heaven in a fiery chariot like me, but God will swing low and carry you home. 私のように、火の戦車によって天国につれていかれないでしょうが、神様はあなたを安全に御自分の家に連れて行きます。 In the meantime, your mission is to remain faithful to God. その前に、あなたのミッションとは、忠実に神様に使える事です。 This congregation is, first of all, a place to pray, praise and give thanks to God. この教会は、まず、祈り、賛美と神様を感謝する場所です。 You must support and keep the church open to be the place to do that. それをするために、この教会を支えて大事にして下さい。 Then this congregation is the people who pray, praise and thank God in their daily lives. この教会の人々は、自分達の毎日の人生の中で、祈りと賛美と感謝を神様にささげる事が出来ます。 That is God’s desire for you.” これが神様の御心です。」And the advice given us would be the same that Moses and Elijah would give to Jesus to encourage him in his work of salvation.
モーセとエリヤが、私達にくれる忠告は、イエス様の救いの働きの為への勇気付けの言葉と同じでしょう。 Trust God. 即ち：神様を信頼しなさい。 Keep to his plan. 彼のご計画に従いなさい。 Drink the cup of suffering. 苦しみの杯を飲みなさい。 Do the will of God. 神様の御心に従いなさい。 Go to the cross. 十字架までにも行きなさい。 Trust always in the resurrection. いつも復活を信頼しなさい。 Rejoice in the hope and love of God the Father. 父なる神様の愛と希望によって喜びなさい。 Pray, praise, and give thanks. 祈って、賛美して、感謝しなさい。Amen.
