Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2 Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? 3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. 4 Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them?do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

ちょうどそのとき、何人かの人が来て、ピラトがガリラヤ人の血を彼らのいけにえに混ぜたことをイエスに告げた。2 イエスはお答えになった。「そのガリラヤ人たちがそのような災難に遭ったのは、ほかのどのガリラヤ人よりも罪深い者だったからだと思うのか。3 決してそうではない。言っておくが、あなたがたも悔い改めなければ、皆同じように滅びる。4 また、シロアムの塔が倒れて死んだあの十八人は、エルサレムに住んでいたほかのどの人々よりも、罪深い者だったと思うのか。5 決してそうではない。言っておくが、あなたがたも悔い改めなければ、皆同じように滅びる。」Earthquakes.
地震。 Tsunami. 津波。Murder. 殺人。 Violence. 暴力。 Injustice. 不正義。Sudden accidents. 事故。 Natural disasters and man-made disasters. 天災。人間が起こす悲劇。People want to know why disasters happen.
どうして災害があるかと人々は思います。 The weatherman explains the low pressure areas that cause a typhoon. 天気予報の人は、台風を起こす低気圧について説明します。 Some professor explains on television about how a tsunami can cross vast areas of ocean. 大学の教授は、どうして遠く離れている地域の地震が広い海を渡って津波を送る事が出来るか説明します。 Some psychologist explains why some person went crazy and started killing people. 心理学の専門家は、どうしてある人が狂って来て、多くの人を惨殺（ざんさつ）するか説明します。 Some preachers explain that the natural disaster was the punishment of God upon the sin of the people killed in the disaster. ある説教者は、天災はその災害でころされた人に対する神の罰であると説明します。At the time of Jesus, there was a tower in Jerusalem that collapsed and killed 18 people.
イエス様の時代にエルサレムで、ある塔が倒れて１８人の人が死にました。 In a case similar to police brutality, Pilate had killed some pilgrims from Galilee on their way to the temple to worship. 警察暴力のように、ピラトはエルサレムに上って来たガリラヤ人の巡礼者を殺しました。 It seems that some people thought that these tragedies were the punishment of God on evil people. ある人はその悲劇は悪人に対する神様の罰だと思いました。 But Jesus denies that connection. しかし、イエス様はその事を否定します。 Jesus said, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. Or those 18 who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them ? do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.” イエス様は言われました、「そのガリラヤ人たちがそのような災難に遭ったのは、ほかのどのガリラヤ人よりも罪深い者だったからだと思うのか。3 決してそうではない。言っておくが、あなたがたも悔い改めなければ、皆同じように滅びる。4 また、シロアムの塔が倒れて死んだあの十八人は、エルサレムに住んでいたほかのどの人々よりも、罪深い者だったと思うのか。5 決してそうではない。言っておくが、あなたがたも悔い改めなければ、皆同じように滅びる。」In other words: there is no one who is not a sinner, there is no one who is not guilty.
言い換えますと、罪人でない人はいません。 If the disaster was punishment for sin, then everyone in the city of Jerusalem should have died. もしその災害が罪の罰ならば、エルサレムの町の全ての人が死ぬべきです。 If natural disaster were really “acts of God” to punish sinners, then the whole would be destroyed. もし天災は天国からの災害ならば、地球にいる全ての人が滅びます。 In other words: Do not ask why Chili was hit by a magnitude 8.8 earthquake on Sunday morning (Feb. 28, 2010). 言い換えますと、どうして日曜日の朝（2010/2/28）にチリにマグニチュウド８．８度の地震があったかと聞かないで下さい。 Rather, ask why Okinawa had only a magnitude 6 earthquake on Saturday morning (Feb.27, 2010) that caused virtually no damage at all. その代わりに、どうして土曜日の朝(2010/2/27)に沖縄での地震がたったのマグニチュウド ６度の地震で、災害が殆ど無くすんだのはなぜかと、聞いたほうがいいです。(The difference in energy of M.8.8 is about One Thousand times that of M.6.9.) （M.8.8はM.6.9より千倍強いです。） Don’t ask why Chili is suffering, ask why we are not. どうしてチリの人々が苦しんでいるかと問わないで、どうして私達が苦しんでいないかと問います。 They are not worse sinners than we are; they are not more guilty than Okinawa. そのチリの人が沖縄の私達より罪深い人間ではありません。The tsunami warning should remind us of the great flood at the time of Noah.
津波の警告を聞くと、ノアの時代の大洪水の事を思い起こします。 God decided to destroy the sin of the world and all the sinners of the world. その時、神様は全世界の罪を滅ぼすために、全世界の罪人が滅ぶようにしました。 But we also see the love and mercy of God. しかし、神様の愛と哀れみをも見る事ができます。 God saved eight people on the ark. ノアの箱舟の中に神様は８人の人を救いました。 After the flood God put the rainbow in the sky as a sign of his promise not to destroy the world again by a flood because of sin. そして大洪水の後に、青空に虹を起きました。それは再び罪の為に、全世界を大洪水で滅ぼさないとの神様の約束です。 But like the tsunami warning, Jesus gave us a warning also. しかし津波の警告のように、イエス様は私達に警告を与えます。 “But unless you repent, you too will all perish.” 「あなたがたも悔い改めなければ、皆同じように滅びる。」 And Jesus was not warning about falling towers, he was warning about falling into hell. イエス様は、落ちる塔について警告しないで、地獄に落ちる事について警告します。Just because a person believes in God does not mean that they will be spared from disaster.
人が神様を信じると言うとき、その人が災いに逢わないということを意味しません。 Accepting Jesus as your savior does not automatically mean that you will enjoy a long, rich, happy life. イエス様を自分の救い主として信じて受け入れても、自動的に、あなたの人生が幸せで、長くて、金持ちになると意味しません。 I know many good Christians who have suffered greatly. 多くの事を苦しんでいる多くのキリスト信者がいることを知っています。 They had not committed some great sin. その人が何かの大きな罪を犯した訳ではありません。 Their faith was not weak. 信仰が弱い訳でもありませんでした。 I know Christian families that have suffered or have been torn apart by divorce, death and disease. クリスチャン･ホームでさえも、離婚と死と病気などで悩まされています。 It was not their fault. その人の罪のせいではありません。 God was not punishing them. 神様はその人に罰を与えているわけではありません。God was not punishing them because Jesus had already taken upon himself the punishment of their sin.
神様は彼らに罰を与えない事とは、イエス様はもう既に、御自分の上にその罪の罰を受け取ったのです。 Jesus suffered the injustice and violence when he took upon himself the sin of the world and died in our place. 御自分の上に世の罪を取って、暴力と不正義に苦しんで、私達の変わりに死にました。 The earth shook when Jesus died. イエス様が死んだ時、地震がありました。 That earthquake sent out a divine tsunami of baptismal water that splashes over us and purifies us. その地震による神様の津波は洗礼の水となって、私達に水をかけて私達を清い者にします。Jesus said, “But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”
イエス様は言われました、「あなたがたも悔い改めなければ、皆同じように滅びる。」 Repentance is reflection. 悔い改めとは、反省（はんせい）です。 It is thinking about your faith and thinking about the love of God in Christ. 自分の信仰について考えて、キリストによる神様の愛について考える事です。 In this time of repentance and reflection, the Holy Spirit leads us to know that God’s promises are greater than any disasters. この悔い改めと反省の時、聖霊の導きによって分かるのは、神様の約束がどんな災害でも強い事です。 We reflect on Psalm 23. 又、詩篇２３篇の言葉を黙想（もくそう）します。 “The Lord is my Shepherd. …. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for you are with me.” 「主はわたしの牧者であって、わたしには乏しいことがない。…. たといわたしは死の陰の谷を歩むとも、わざわいを恐れません。あなたがわたしと共におられるからです。」 Even if we are victims, God is with us. 私達が被害者でしても、神様が私達と共にいます。 Even if there is an earthquake and we are crushed and killed by a falling building, God is with us. たとい地震があって、私達が崩（くず）れた建物の下でつぶされて殺されても、神様が私達と共にいます。 No matter what, God is with us. 何があっても神様が私達と共にいます。 He is with us when we are born. 私達が生まれた時にも私達と共にいます。 In all the good times and in all the bad times he is with us. 人生の良い時も悪い時も、私達と共にいます。 And at the hour of our death, he is with us. そして、私達が死ぬ時にもイエス様が私達と共にいます。 And so, we do not perish. ですから私達は滅びません。 We live in the everlasting love of Jesus. 私達はイエス様の永遠の愛の中に生きるからです。Amen.
