Walking with Jesus
イエス様と共に歩くThe Third Sunday of Easter, April 6, 2008

Jesus had many more followers than just the 12 Disciples.
１２弟子以外にも、多くの人々がイエス様に従いました。 Two of these other followers were walking to Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. その中の２人は、エルサレムから１１キロ離れたエマオまで歩きました。 It was the afternoon of the first Easter. 最初のイースターの午後でした。 They were very sad. 二人は「暗い顔」をしていました。 They were very sad because they were disappointed. 失望していたので、淋しかったです。 They had hoped that Jesus would be the Messiah sent from God to save the nation of Israel. イエス様が、イスラエルの国を解放（かいほう）するメサイアだと希望したからです。 They were thinking in political terms. 彼らは政治的な事を考えました。 They hoped that Jesus would get rid of the Romans who were controlling their country. イエス様がイスラエルの国を支配していたローマ人を追い出して下さると希望したのです。 But instead, Jesus was condemned to death and crucified. しかし、イエス様が十字架で死刑にされました。 Disappointed, disillusioned, depressed, they left Jerusalem and headed to Emmaus. 彼らは失望して、がっかりして、淋しくて、エルサレムを出てエマオに向かって歩きました。Jerusalem is the City of God. エルサレムは神様の都です。 Jerusalem is the city from which God would save his people. 神様はご自分の民をエルサレムで救い出すからです。 So when they left Jerusalem, it is a symbol that they had lost hope. それで、彼らがエルサレムから出る事は、希望を失った事のしるしです。It is a symbol of people today who lose hope in God.
現代の人々が神様に対する希望を失う事を表すシンボルでもあります。 People have tried the church or heard a bit about Jesus, but have gone away from the city of God. 人々は教会に行った事があり、イエス様についてちょっと聞いた事がありますが、神様の都から出て行きました。 The Emmaus they are heading toward might have other names. 彼らが向かって行くエマオには、さまざまな名前があります。 There are names like addictions, hedonism, materialism, depression. その名前とは、いろいろの中毒、遊び、お金、ものに対する 執着（しゅうちゃく）、うつ病などなど。But they all lead away from God.しかし、全は神様から離れて行きます。2
When Jesus met the two disciples on the road, they did not recognize him.
イエス様はその二人の弟子と道で会う時、彼らはイエス様にきづきませんでした。 They were "kept from recognizing him" (24:16) by God. 神様によって「目はさえぎられていました」（24:16）。 Jesus did not want them to know that it was him yet. イエス様はご自分の事にまだきづいてもらいたくありませんでした。 But the deeper problem was that they did not recognize who Jesus really was. They did not understand the real truth about Jesus.しかし、ここの大きな問題とは、彼らがイエス様は本当にどなたであるかという事が分かっていないという事です。 And that is why Jesus calls them "foolish" and "slow of heart." それで、イエス様は彼らが「りがく、心がい」者であると言われます。 Then Jesus explained to them from the Old Testament Scriptures everything about the Messiah. そして、イエス様は彼らに、メシアについて旧約聖書を説明しました。Yes, they already knew the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah, but Jesus had to explain to them what they had missed. 勿論、彼らは、旧約聖書のメシアの預言について知っていましたが、彼らがきづいていなかった事について説明されました。 He told them that it was NECESSARY that the Messiah would suffer, that Christ HAD TO "suffer these things and then enter his glory" (26). それはメシアが苦しみを受ける事が必要である事です;「苦しみを受けて、栄光に入るはずだった」（26）事です。Modern day travelers on the road away from Jerusalem have the same problem.
現代の旅人、エルサレムから離れて行く旅人には、同じ問題があります。 Our hearts can be blinded so that we do not see Jesus. 私達の心が目隠しされているので、イエス様を見る事が出来ません。 We want a savior who will take away our suffering. 私達は、自分の苦しみを全部取ってしまって下さる救い主が欲しいと思います。 But we do not realize that what is NECESSARY is a Messiah that would suffer. 私たちが理解していないのは、苦しむメシアが必要である事です。 In our suffering, we NEED a Christ who will suffer with us and for us. 私達が苦しむので、私達と共に、私達の代わりに苦しんで下さるキリストが要ります。And if we don�t recognize that Jesus is that sort of savior, then we are walking away from Jerusalem. そして、イエス様がそのような救い主であると理解しなければ、私達はエルサレムから離れて歩いて出て行きます。 We are walking away from the city of our salvation. 救いの都から出て行きます。 Any road that leads away from the city of salvation is a dead end. 救いの都から出て行く道は、行き止まりの道です。 Jesus and the resurrection to life are back in Jerusalem. イエス様と命の復活は、エルサレムにあります。3
Jesus did not give up on the two disciples.
イエス様は、その二人の弟子の事をあきらめませんでした。 Instead, "Jesus himself came up and walked along with them" (15). 「イエス様ご自身が近づいて来て、一緒に歩き始められた」のです(15)。 Patiently, "he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself" (27). 忍耐深くて、「聖書全体にわたり、御自分について書かれている事を説明された」のです(27)。 He explained WHY the Messiah had to suffer and die. どうしてメシアが苦しみを受けて死ななければならないか説明して下さいました。 The two disciples began to recognize the truth. そして、二人の弟子は真理が分かってきました。Jesus comes to us when we are going in the wrong direction.
私達が間違っている方向に向かって行く時、イエス様は私達のところにも来られます。 We are patiently told the Good News about God�s love and WHY he had to suffer and die for us. 神様の愛の福音やどうして私達の為に苦しみを受けて死ぬ必要が有るかを丁寧に、忍耐強く説明されます。 He is the one to "redeem Israel." 彼こそは、イスラエルを解放して下さる方です。 He is the one to "free the nation." イスラエルの国を自由にする方です。 He is the one to "save the world." この世を救うお方です。 This freedom is not in a political sense, since his kingdom is not of this world, as Jesus told Pilate (John 18:36). イエス様がピラトに話したように(ヨハネ 18:36) 、御自分の国はこの世のものではないので、これは政治的な解放ではありません。 His Kingdom is the whole world. イエス様の国は全世界です。 His death and resurrection redeems us from Satan and sin. 彼の死と復活は、私達をサタンや罪から解放して下さいます。4
Finally the two disciples recognize the truth.
最後に、その二人の弟子はが分かりました。 And so the recognized Jesus in the breaking and blessing of the bread. パンを祝福して裂く事によって彼らはイエス様を知りました。 In their tremendous joy, they forget their Emmaus business and rush back to Jerusalem. 大喜びを持って、エマオでのを忘れて、エルサレムに走って帰りました。 They recognized Jesus because of faith. 信仰があったので、イエス様が分かりました。Because we have faith, we too recognize who Jesus is.
私達にも信仰があるので、私達もイエス様がどなたであるか分かります。5
They returned to the city of God.
彼らは神様の都に帰りました。 They returned to the place of the crucifixion and resurrection. 十字架と復活の場所に帰りました。 Then Jesus gave them the Great Commission to go out and proclaim the Gospel to the world. そして、イエス様は彼らにその偉大なる宣教の命令を下さいました、即ち、エルサレムから出て全世界に福音を述べ伝える事です。 As missionaries and apostles, they meet people on the "road to nowhere" and lead them to the city of God. 宣教師や使徒として、無意味な道を歩く人と出会って、その人を神様の都に導きました。This is where we are today.
今日、私達もその場所にいます。 We recognize Jesus in the breaking and blessing of the bread in the Holy Supper. 聖餐式でパンを祝福して裂く事によって、私達はイエス様にきづきます。 Then we go out and spread the Gospel of Salvation. そして私達も出て行って福音を述べ伝えます。 We join other people who might be walking away from God and lead them to the city of God. 神様の所から離れて歩く人と一緒に歩いて、神様の都に導きます。We tell that it is NECESSARY that Christ die and rise again. キリストが死んで甦った事が必要であったと伝えます。 We tell WHY Jesus died and rose. どうしてイエス様が死んで復活したか伝えます。 It is because he loves us and because we NEED a suffering savior who will forgive our sin. それは、イエス様が私達を愛して下さるからですし、私達の罪を赦す為に苦しみを受ける救い主が必要であるからです。 This gives hope. 私達に希望を与えます。 And in the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus, we recognize our Savior. そして、イエス様の苦しみ、死、復活の中で、私達は自分の救い主を知ります。Amen.
