Ephesians 5:8-14　Children of Light

服新書　ヨハネ9章　　生まれつきの盲人をいやす

第二日課 エフェソ 5:8-14(p. 新 357 )

エフェソ5:8 あなたがたは、以前には暗闇でしたが、今は主に結ばれて、光となっています。光の子として歩みなさい。5:9 ――光から、あらゆる善意と正義と真実とが生じるのです。――5:10 何が主に喜ばれるかを吟味しなさい。5:11 実を結ばない暗闇の業に加わらないで、むしろ、それを明るみに出しなさい。5:12 彼らがひそかに行っているのは、口にするのも恥ずかしいことなのです。5:13 しかし、すべてのものは光にさらされて、明らかにされます。5:14 明らかにされるものはみな、光となるのです。それで、こう言われています。

Jesus healed a man who had been born blind. イエス様は生まれつき目の見えない人を癒しました。At first the man did not know who Jesus was. その人はイエス様がどなたであったか、最初分かりませんでした。 Then he began to understand that Jesus was good man, then a prophet, and finally he believed that Jesus was the messiah. しかしイエス様が良い人であると思って、次に預言者であると思って、最後にイエス様が救い主であると信じました。 He said, “I was blind but now I see.” 言いました、｢目の見えなかったわたしが、今は見えるということです。｣ Not only were his eyes opened, but also his heart and mind, and he could see, he could understand who Jesus was. 開いたのは目だけではなくて、彼の心も理解も開いて、イエス様が本当にどなたであるかが分かって、見る事が出来ました。

We do not know anything more about this man. その後、その人がどうなったか知りません。 Presumably he became a follower of Jesus. 多分イエス様の信者になったでしょう。 But what might have happened when he could no longer see Jesus? しかし、イエス様をもう見えなくなった時、どうなるでしょうか。 What might have happened when Jesus left the city of Jerusalem? イエス様がエルサレムの町から出る時、どうなるでしょうか。 He must be careful that he does not become blind again. 彼は再び目が見えない状態にならないように、気をつけなければなりません。 He must not return to his old habits. 以前のくせに戻る事は駄目です。 He must not put back on his dark glasses or walk around with his eyes closed. 古い黒いめがねを再びかけてはいけません。目を閉じて歩き回る事は駄目です。Since birth he had been used to the darkness. 生まれた時から、目が見えないと言う、暗い状態になれていました。 As a new believer, he must learn to live in the light of God. しかし新しい信者として、神様の光の中に生きる事を習わなければなりません。

This is a warning for us, too. これは私達の為にも、同様に注意すべきです。 It was a warning for the church in Ephesus, also. また、エペソの教会の為にも注意すべきことでした。 Eph. 5:8, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.”　 エフェソ5:8、｢あなたがたは、以前にはでしたが、今は主に結ばれて光となっています。光の子として歩みなさい。｣　The church members in Ephesus had been pagan idol worshipers, they had lived the pagan lifestyle of debauchery. 以前エフェソの信者たちは、異教の遇像礼拝者で、その生活振りも乱midaれたものでした。 Paul says that it is even shameful to talk about how they used to live. 聖パウロは、その以前の生き方について話すのは恥ずかしいことだと言います。 Without Christ, it was darkness. イエス様のいない状態は暗闇でした。 It was without the Holy Spirit. 聖霊がない人生でした。 But now their eyes have been opened. しかし今は彼らの目が開かれています。 They have seen the Light of God. 神様の光を見ました。 That light revealed their sin, their “fruitless deeds of darkness” (11).　 その光は彼らの罪を照らしたのです。即ちその｢実を結ばない暗闇の業｣を明らかにしました。 But that light also revealed the Gospel of salvation and the work of the Holy Spirit. しかしその同じ光は、救いの福音と聖霊の働きをも表しました。And so they could say with the formerly blind man, “I was blind but now I see.” それで彼らも、生まれながら目の見えなかった人と共に、言う事が出来ました。｢目の見えなかったわたしが、今は見えるということです。｣

We must listen as Paul warns them not to return to their old Gentile, pagan ways. 私達はパウロの話を聞かなければなりません。聖パウロは、彼らがその古い異邦人の行き方、その礼拝の道に戻らないようにとします。 They must not close their eyes and fall asleep. 目を閉じて眠ってはいけません。 Because that would be like being dead again. なぜならば、それは再び死ぬ事ようだからです。 And so Paul writes, それでパウロは書きました、

“Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
「眠りについている者、起きよ。死者の中から立ち上がれ。
そうすれば、キリストはあなたを照らされる。」

That is the power of the death and resurrection of Christ. それはキリストの死と復活の力です。 That is the Gospel. それは福音です。 In the Light of Christ they will live filled with the Holy Spirit. キリストの光の内に聖霊に満たされます。 It will be a fruitful life of love and worship. 愛と礼拝で満たされている人生です。

In this time of Lent, we are called to open our eyes and see Jesus. 今は受難節なので、私達が目をひけて、イエス様を見るように導かれています。 When we see Jesus on the cross, we see our forgiveness. 十字架上のイエス様を見る時、私達は自分の赦しを見ます。 When we see his suffering we see our peace. イエス様の苦しみを見る時、自分の平和を見ます。 When we see his death, we see our death in him. イエス様の死を見る時、イエス様と共にある私達の死も見ます。 When we see his resurrection we see our eternal life. イエス様の復活を見る時、私達の永遠の命を見ます。 Today we are called to make our confession of faith with the man who had been blind. 今日私達も、以前目が見えなかった人と共に、信仰告白をするように呼びかかれています。 We are called to live our lives in the light of Christ. キリストの光の中で自分の人生を送るように呼びかかれています。
